Martha Surface

A "Little" About Martha Surface

Martha Surface is in her twenty-eighth year of teaching with the Killeen Independent School District. She taught at Rancier Junior High for three years prior to coming to Killeen High School as associate choir director. In 1986, she took over the responsibilites of directing the Killeen High School Choral Music program. As a Pasadena High School student under the direction of Jim Casey, Martha was selected for membership in the TMEA All State Choir. She received her Bachelor of Music Education with piano concentration from Sam Houston State University as a student of John Paul, Virginia Irvin, and Wayne Roe. Martha also studied with B.R. Henson at SHSU while completing the Master of Music degree with Kodaly certification. Frequent accompanist for Region Choir Concerts, Martha has held office as TMEA Region VIII Secretary and Vocal Chairman. Additionally, Martha accompanies middle school and high school choirs within her district for concerts and contests. For many years, Martha served as church pianist and organist, but now enjoys singing in the choir. Her husband, Richard, is the head choral director at Ellison High School in Killeen. His EHS Chorale performed at the 1991 TMEA Convention. Their son, Scott, is the choral director at Twin Creeks Middle School in Spring. Martha holds membership in TMEA, TCDA, ACDA, and Sigma Alpha Iota.
