Manjar -Amy/UT:From the Idea Exchange | Ingredients: | Directions: |
---|
1 or 2 cans Sweetened Condensed Milk fresh, rinsed berries OR Ice Cream OR crepes OR pancakes |
Boil unopened, SWEETENED CONDENSED MILK in a pot of water for two hours. Make sure
the cans are COMPLETELY covered with water the entire two hours. You'll just want to check
it once or twice an hour, then add more water to the pot as necessary - no big whoop. LOL!
When you open the can, you'll find the once-white, sweetened condensed milk has turned a light
caramel brown. It is very creamy and pleasantly sweet - not too rich or sticky. It will look
and taste like a cross between custard and caramel. It's ready to use as a topping. |
...from Chile, my husband's "homeland." It's called "manjar" and is
pronounced "mawn-HAR."...Amy My MIL makes my birthday cake each year
using manjar, peaches or strawberries, whip cream frosting, and packaged yellow cake mix. You bake the cake
from the mix in two layers. Then spread the manjar on top of one layer. Then add the fruit of your choice. Place
the second layer on top of the first. Frost the entire thing with the whipped cream frosting. (I think the recipe can
be found in the BHG cookbook, or any basic cookbook.) This cake is INCREDIBLE. It's not too rich or too sweet - it's
just right. |
