Cort looked down at the shiny star in his hand. Strange how light it felt in his hand, and how heavy it's responsibilities weighed on his shoulders. He looked up at the devastation of the town of Redemption. At the confused and bewildered faces of the townspeople. The same people who had come to watch him fight or die. Cort took a deep breath, the smell of smoke and gunpowder filling his lungs. It was going to be hard work to clean up after Herod. And he would have to do it alone. From above the babbling of the people and the cracking of fire burning down the wooden buildings of Redemption, Cort's ears caught a sound. It was that of a horse whinny. Instinctively, he turned around in the direction of where Ellen had rode off, leaving him behind. Ellen's horse was rearing on it's hind legs as she wheeled the animal around. She galloped through the smoke, her duster flapping behind her,and pulled up short in front of where Cort stood. Jumping down out of the saddle, Ellen strode up to him. "What the hell was I thinking, riding away from you," she said as she grabbed the back of his head and pulled Cort's mouth crushing down on hers.
