the melbourne football club was established in 1897. We are the oldest club in the V.F.L/A.F.L. The name Demons came about in the 1940's when legendary melbourne coach Frank"Checker"Hughes(my cousin)told his players:"you're all playing like a bunch of flowers lift your heads and play like DEMONS!!!" After reciving the wooden spoon in 1997 the dees returned in 1998 to finish fourth on the ladder after losing to North Melbourne in the preliminary final.
