I'm a player that gets carried away trying different horns, and metal clarinets are especially interesting because there is so much variation from one to the next. It's like they have their own personality, and of course there is a story to each one. Fun to collect, so pick up one of these hard-to-find treasures and start your collection during this rare offering. ...........WWW.SILVER-CLARINET.COM
Rare Armored 424N Conn
The 424N, according to records wasn't introduced until the 1930s, but it appears that this one--a silver clad one--was made in limited numbers around 1926. Armored Conns are very rare, but this 424N model is perhaps the hardest to find. I've only heard of about a half dozen of them other than the ones I have, and they all were in the serial number range of less than 150 digits. So rare that this one was worth the trouble for a major salvage. Non-original barrel and thumbrest, keys were fabricated, middle joint replaced, and of course springs and pads. Four different repair technicians worked on this, and finally it plays well again. My favorite clarinet--Better than the 444 which I consider the best jazz clarinet ever made--clad in silver! $1250 USD
