  1. All members will comply with AKC rules and regulations regarding record keeping, identification, registration, and the sale and transfer of dogs.
  2. Prior to breeding it is the responsibility of both owners of studs and bitches to screen for both infectious and hereditary diseases and to keep testing techniques current as new testing becomes available.
  3. Breeders will strive to conform to the standard to improve progeny and to reduce both physical and emotional faults.
  4. Breeders who offer stud service or sell puppies with known serious hereditary defects must define potential problems and discuss the possibility of such defects to potential clients.
  5. Members will refer potential puppy purchasers to reputable breeders and be promtly helpful and courteous to those who request information concerning our breed.
  6. All contract terms and conditions will be exacted in writing and members will honor their obligations.
  7. Members will not maliciously slander other members nor seek to impair the reputation of other breeders. It is imperative, however, that serious situations which are detrimental to our breed be reported.
  8. Members will only sponsor applicants about whom they have some personal knowledge.
  9. Advertising will be done only in a professional manner.

The Hoosier Basenji Club Code of Conduct

  1. All dogs will be kept in safe and sanitary conditions; be given maximal healthcare and protection to include proper nutrition, regular inoculations, and proper identification.
  2. Willing assistance and encouragement will be offered by members to novices at show and to others who need advice and guidance. The welfare of our breed will be in their hands in the future.
  3. puppies will not be sold or consigned to pet stores...nor to "disreputable" breeders.
  4. prospective buyers will be well educated about our breed prior to the placement of a puppy. They will be screened carefully to determine their intent as well as their ability to provide a safe, loving and long-term relationship with a puppy or an adult dog as well.
  5. All puppies and dogs offered for sale will be sold with written contracts to include clear terms and will be signed by the buyer and the seller. The seller must be contacted if at any time the buyer is unable to maintain the dog. It is the obligation of the seller to assist with placement of the dog in question.
  6. All puppies leaving the breeder will be at least 8 weeks of age. Breeders will provide puppy buyers with written details on feeding, general care, dates and types of inoculations, worming, eye exams, etc. and be available to offer future advice as needed.
  7. Members will act in a professional and sportsmanlike manner at all times and respect the rules of hotels/motels and show sites and all show sponsors.
