Denniz PoP was by far the most successful Scandinavian
producer in the history of recorded music, a significant
and towering figure in the music Biz and known all over
the World for his successful productions. The artists he
has worked with in the course of time list as a veritable
"Who’s Who" of Scandinavian superstars. Born Dag Volle in
Norway, he relocated to Stockholm where he became famous
under the producer alias Denniz PoP.
Denniz started out in the 80s as a DJ and subsequently
went on to found SweMix, a studio and record company
complex in Stockholm at the beginning of the 90s.
His early tracks with Dr. Alban and Kayo launched a
whole new Swedish sound, paving the way for
international recognition. He then went on to produce
Leila K. ("Open Sesame" a.o.) and stumbled into a then
obscure group from Gothenburg whose demo tape was
stuck in Denniz’s car stereo. Denniz transformed
"Mr. Ace" into "All That She Wants" and Ace Of Base
went on to sell 21 million album units of their first
album. In the late 90s, Denniz continued his winning
streak of smash hits with the likes of Papa Dee, E-Type,
the Backstreet Boys, 3T and Robyn.
At the end of 1997, Denniz became ill and his health
rapidly deteriorated due to Cancer. He died in the
early morning hours of August 30th, 1998 - we hope
that he is now producing angelic choirs in Heaven.
Denniz shall be sorely missed!
Note: The Backstreet Boys' latest album, "Millenium", is entirely dedicated to Denniz PoP.
