In 1846 at the age of 38, Anton and his wife took their two young sons and emigrated

One reason they wanted to leave was they feared their sons would be drafted into the
military. In Bavaria, all male citizens had to be inducted into armed service at a
very early age.

They came into the United States at the port of New York.

In 1849, they lived in Bennington, Wyoming Co., New York. There Anton took his Oath
of Allegiance and stated his intention to become an American citizen.

In all legal matters he used the name Anthony TYRING.

On 22 April 1853, Anton and his wife bought 20 acres from John and Elizabeth Ferguson
for the sum of $40. Then on 13 March 1854 they purchased 40 acres from James and
Nancy Miles for $200. This was in Hart Twp., Warrick Co., about a mile east of the
German Church on the south side of the road.

Formal organization of the St. Matthews Church (German Church) took place on 17
November 1862. Anton, Barbara and their son, Fredrick signed the original
constitution.
It was written in German and later translated into English with only minor changes
and is still in force to this day.
