The veil that conceals the villainous character of this order is so very thin that the intelligent reader. if not al- ready blinded with lodge oaths, cannot fail to see its horri- ble purpose. The proffesed design of its founders is stated on page four: to "try judge, and if convicted execute, criminals with- in the hour, leaving no trace of their action behind. But this is for Arabia. On page five we are told: "When brought to this country, it was deemed expedient to place it in the hands of Freemasons only * * and it could be made if necessarily required. a Masonic Inquisition. " It will be observed [page six] that membership is limited to, Knights Templar Freemasons of the York Rite and Thirty Second Degree of the Scotch Rite. Whv any one who has taken the 31st Degree of the Scotch Rite, with its suggestive title: "GRAND INsPECTOR INQUISITOR COMMANDER" [see Vol. 2 Scotch Rite Masonry Illustrated] should want anything more in the inquisitorial line is a puzzle till it is remembered that York Rite Masons may, through the Mystic Shrine, join hands with brethren of the Scotch Rite as "Inquisitors upon the flagrant outragers and desecrators of Masonic Vows," which on'page four is the forcible way, in which lodge vengeance is referred to as the object of this society of thugs.
