Aleixa

ALEIXA

BAND INFO: Aleixa is a Christian industrial band that mixes in aspects of hard techno, dance, and melodic metal guitars. Aleixa, consisting of Kevin 131 and Laurel Snapper (with April Lassiter to help out on the vocals), was formerly known as "Sorrow of Seven". Sorrow of Seven released 3 demo tapes from 1991 to 1994. They changed their name to Aleixa and released the debut album "Honey Lake" in 1995. After a brief stay with the famous Christian industrial label Flying Tart Records, Aleixa went over to the up-and-coming Bulletproof Records to release "Disfigured" in 1999. Kevin 131, the programmer and musical force behind Aleixa, has helped out many other Christian industrial acts. He was a temporary guitarist for the Christian industrial pioneer band Deitphobia and helping out with Argyle Park.

Disfigured

Disfigured - OVERVIEW: Uplifting industrial music. "Uplifting industrial music"? Is there such a thing? Aleixa takes key elements of industrial electronics and throws in a lot of techno sounds and beats. Add in a little bit of melodic metal guitars with powerful female vocals with positive Christian-based lyrics, and you've got yourself "uplifting industrial music". This album is very good! I had heard a taste of Aleixa on compilations before but I never got to take a whole bite out of their music. Some songs can be very melodic and catchy while some songs just make you wanna jump up and bust a move on the dancefloor. Overall, it is a very mixed CD with some dance here, some industrial there, and a blend of the two in other places. The music is very fresh and the female vocals are a welcome change to the distorted male vocals you usually hear in industrial bands. A secular listener may also be surprised to hear Aleixa do a cover of Duran Duran's "The Reflex". I also appreciated the remix by Deep Sky that was thrown in there. Note: The CD track listing shows only 12 tracks, but there are actually 13. The 13th track is actually just a "mess around" track where there is no music but you can hear the band members talking and practicing.
