He submitted to the yoke of Christ in his early years, and under the regenerating power of the Holy Spirit was eminently qualified for usefulness in the Church, filling various important offices in the Society to the satisfaction of his friends.

He was "an example to the believers in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity."

To some friends who inquired after his condition, he replied, "Soon after I was taken ill I was enabled to commit myself into the hands of my good Master, and have suffered very little either in body or mind since; my feelings have been those of quiet trust, which is all I could ask or desire." He was permitted to enjoy that state of mind to his close; his spiritual prospects growing brighter and brighter, he was enabled to give touching and pertinent counsel to those about him, and it was felt to be a privilege to attend his bedside.

To one who was endeavoring to make his position more comfortable, he quoted the lines-

"Jesus can make a dying bed
Feel soft as downy pillows are,
Whilst on His breast I rest my head
And breathe my life out sweetly there."

He frequently expressed great peace of mind, and was often heard to exclaim, "oh! if I could go to sleep and never wake, how happy I should be." This aspiration was granted him. A few hours before he expired he appeared to be in a sweet sleep, and was favored to pass away peacefully and quietly.

The early removal of this young Friend has occasioned a void that will be keenly felt by a large number of relatives and friends. Possessing mental qualities of higher order, combined with an unassuming and amiable disposition, in college as in the social walks of life, she won the esteem of her associates. At the close of the diary for the year 1861 she expressed a fear that she had not made that progress in religion which she should have done, but renewed her covenant with her Saviour to serve Him more devotedly, closing with the expression- "I hope I may not see the last of another year until I am prepared for death." The night previous to the setting in of the delirium which attended her disease, she prayed to her Heavenly Father for admittance into the mansions prepared for the righteous; and her relatives and friends are consoled with the belief that her prayer was heard and answered, and that she now peacefully rests with the redeemed in glory.
