Construction
Details
If you are a new Bot Builder I recommend
contacting:
Gary Glover, the author of the
Official 'Bot Building Guide. His book is endorsed by Best Brains and is
all you will need to construct your own set of robot friends.
The book is also available from the MST3K
info club site.
The following tracks my own construction of my Tom Servo replica. Many of the techniques are outlined in Gary's book, others are my own idea, and some are gleaned from other builders. I have no idea if what I have done is "correct" with respect to how BBI did it, my aim is to make my Servo look as much like the Season #10 version as I can while keeping him functional and durable, and servicable.
This is my collection of parts. I decided to get everything I need before
starting construction. Mostly so I could take this picture. Shown here (left
to right) two genuine Eveready #108 flashlight hoods, recast Money Lover
Bank from Tom Seiler, substitute bowl for hoverskirt (exact dimesions of
original), recast engine block from Gary Glover, recast hands also from Gary,
Executive Snack Dispenser w/original extra lid (obscured by hands), CMore
Bunz doll (I really hate to have to cut the arms off Bob), and six vacuformed
copies of the Tyco Turbo Train also from Gary. Not pictured are arm springs
(can be found at Pep Boys auto parts), and foam pipe insulation for the
hoverskirt
trim.
OK all done! that was pretty easy huh? Well maybe I need some paint and hot glue and stuff, oh yeah some string to make the mouth work. Check back every now and then to see pics of every step as I do them. This is not a weekend project for me so I won't have the whole thing up right away. I will probably have a new step every week.
