Mayor Steve Luecke has said that he intends to try and present th Klan with a bill from Satuday's rally to pay for the overtime costs for the police. He also said tthat the bill will probably go unpaid.
He also said that he is going to work with county prosecutors and the city council to see what kind of ordinances can be passed in the future to make sure that this kind of violence doesn't happen again, and at the very least, to make sure that it doesn't happen at taxpayer expense.
Severl member of the county council are looking at some different South Bend sity ordinances to see if they can be copied and implemented for county use. Commonly called nuisance laws, theselaws make it illegal to maintain a private residence that is deemed a public nuisance. This includes prostitution and drug hotels, but is not limited to them. It could surely be used to include shooting ranges and gaudy cross-burning parties.
