September 10th Contest Results
Results from the Sanctioned Great Sounds Car Audio Competition on September 10th:
Jason (Vice President) competed and was very successful in his run for a title in the "street 3-4" class. That put his 3-10" JLW3's up against anyone with 3-4 10's and 3-4 12's. In his first round, Jason's system was able to get a remarkable score of 148.3 dbs. And that is with not a single piece of dinamat (will be added before the next competition) or a power cap (has since been added). After that, it was off to the playoffs. He beat the next competitor with a score of 147.9 dbs (some bad gain adjustments were the cause), then before he was allowed to change his settings, he had to switch lanes for the finals(his competitor complained that he thought that "lane" had higher readings, so jason switched lanes and switched cd's and hit a score of 148.2 dbs. It was enough to walk away with second place to a van that had 4-12" JLW6's in a custom set-up which got him 149.2 db. Yea, you heard it right...the newest series from JL and he had 4-12" compared to Jason's 3-10" W3's.
Nick (Vice President) also competed and wasn't quite as successful but still said the time spent was worth it. He was running a Rockford Fosgate punch 360.2 bridged to a Cerwin Vega 15" sub. He came away with a reading of 139.9 dbs. The cause for the low reading??? He was running, minus a fuse block, had 12 gauge wiring, no power cap, plus no dinomat. All of those would have certainly raised the reading quite a bit.
Roy(president) was unable to get his installation on the Camaro done before competition. He got his Teal 1995 Camaro the day before the competition and had other responsibilities of getting fellow club members systems set-up and ready for this and other competitions, so he had to pass on it, but will be in plenty of comp's in the future.
Surprises for the show??? A DB Drag Team drove from Ohio just to prove they could hit over 170 dbs. They did that and more. The team only needed around 5 seconds to register above 172, then just shut it down and packed it back up and got ready to drive right back to Ohio for another competition that day. That is true dedication to this sport. And they were the admiration to everyone who laid eyes on it.

Here's a 15" Cerwin Vega-Vega Series Speaker in a Q-Logic box that is being pushed by a Rockford Fosgate 500.2 Punch Amp in the September 10th, 2000 competition. He recorded a disapointing 139.9 db, but the resons for the low score were found less than 10 minutes after compeition. So, it was too late for that competition, however there is plenty of reasons to smile about the future.
Here's a shot to prove I wasn't lying about the 172+ db output at the comp. Before that, the highest output I had personally viewed was an output of 166db.
