Future of former guard Clemens uncertain
By SCOTT SWAIN
Muncie, IN -- Duane
Clemens, former Ball State guard, was selected in April's USBL draft. He
was drafted by the Florida Sea Dragons as the 16th overall pick.
After being drafted by Florida
Clemens chose to stay in school to finish up his academic career at Ball
State instead of leaving early to start the USBL season.
According to Sea Dragons officials,
Clemens did not report to camp or sign a contract with the team.
"At this point, with
only one month left in our season, we assume that Duane has chosen to purse
other options in continuing his career," Sea Dragons staff official Ken
Kendall said.
Clemens appears to be holding
out for the upcoming NBA draft, considering playing for a team in Europe
or pursuing other career options outside of basketball.
Clemens led the Cardinals in
scoring last year with 18.7 points per game and ranked 6th on Ball State's
all-time scoring list with 1,585 points. He also earned honors such as
team captain, team MVP, MAC Tournament MVP and All-MAC second team selection
during his senior season. In addition to those honors Clemens tied an NCAA
tournament game record with 8 steals in a 1st-round loss to UCLA.
