Remembering

 Remembering

I unlocked my little treasure chest of momentoes from bygone years.
And as I removed them one by one, I couldn't hold back the tears.
They were tears of joy as well as sadness, for we had our good times too.
We had shared so many of God's blessings; the most precious being you.

I found some letters tied with blue, and as I read, I'm sure I heard,
The haunting sound of his soft voice, as he whispered every word.
There were Christmas and birthday cards from as far back as 'fifty three.
And pictures of our wedding and many of your Daddy, you and me.

Bittersweet are these memories, flickering through my mind today,
Of three lives that remained entwined, until angels carried him away.
Though we no longer see or hear him, except in our minds now and then,
I know that he is waiting, just beyond the sunset, until we meet again.

As I locked up my momentoes and put my little treasure chest away,
I could feel his presence by my side, before I heard him softly say,
"I wish you a Merry Christmas, darlings and a Happy New Year too."
"Save me some turkey and pumpkin pie, because I'll be there with you."
