As a nurse in a nursing home, I have found many lonley elderly people whose kids have forgotten who raised them, whose partners have passed away, and whose friends no longer call. Lonliness can kill the biggest hearts, and life ends when the heart gives up. I've seen it happen many times.

He looks up to the sky, so dark and gray,
and know's that rain is on the way.
He walks along a busy street,
smiling and greeting those along the way,
While no one know's the lonliness that dwells inside.
He looks into faces he never see's,
then goes silently on his way.

No one wants him, no one cares,
and he asks himself why,
but he doesn't say a single word,
as he looks back to the sky.

His heart is as heavy as the clouds overhead.
He doesn't want to be here in this rain,
He wants to be somewhere that's cheerful,
but theres no place but home...
.....again.....

Back at home he's lonlier still,
and softly he starts to cry,
because he feels the world is such a wonderful place,
and it has slowly passed him by.

He looks out the window, out to the pouring rain,
through the eyes of many years,
and wishes for someone to be near to him,
just to ease his old age fears.

Throughout the night and the dark,
he wishes he could talk,
to someone that would care for him,
and sooth his breaking heart.

But no one comes, for no one cares,
for the feelings that he hides,
for the loneliness in a man's heart,
and the love that's deep inside.
