"Hey there, Audrey! How are you, my dear? The last time I heard, you tried to let Cupid eat your golden apples to make him fall in love with you, but ended up getting shot by his golden arrows! Hyuck Hyuck!!"
" Will you please shut up, Mother? I feel bad enough as it is! I think that guy only loves himself. How about you? I heard that you tried to entice the Sea God Poseidon, but almost got drowned in the process! Why, you couldn't get the Yisheigai one, so you targeted the Greek one? Why do you love the Sea so much?
"Hush, child! That's a secret!"
"Well, not anymore now that I've heard it, Madeline! To think the Goddess of Love failed to seduce the Sea Gods!! Wahahaha! I think you'd better take some of the stuff you've been dishing out to the mortals!"
"Norton! Just because you're the God of Music doesn't mean you can insult me! Don't think I don't know that you get headaches every day listening to Rock Music, just for the sake for glimpsing at that rock chick you like so much......Hehehe!!!"
"Doh!!!"
She sits at the head of the table, looking at all her children and family (or what's left of it) and tried to suppress a sigh, for she had a pounding headache and countless frustrations. Why is it that I am always surrounded by all these idiots and egomaniacs? All they ever do is talk and think about themselves, and not what they could do to contribute to the plan for World Domination. They just sit around and expect her to come up with something! With the exception of Arian, who had done something completely useless like try to sabotage the research experiments of a certain well-known Multinational Corporation. Maybe he was planning to take control of it, and in the process affect the economy of the world, but there were easier ways to do things, with them being equipped with superior brains and exceptional super powers. Maybe not the brains part, if you're talking about Arian.
The ruckus gets louder and louder, and none of them were talking about how to conquer the world. Which was all that she could take. She took a deep breath and fixed all of them with an icy stare. Her eyes were so cold that you could cut a chunk of ice from her gaze and use it for ice-skating, without so much of a crack on it.
The room immediately turned deadly silent, for the Great Mother's stare was more fear-inducing than the sight of a certain Japanese female ghost ( for those who know who I'm talking about, hurray for you! If not, sorry) crawling out of a television screen. Anyway, it was scary enough, and none of them wanted to face the fate of disobeying that stare.
Finally, she broke the stare.
" Now, I'm sure all of you know the purpose for this meeting. It is to discuss our plans for Operation: World Domination. I know that all of you have just gotten here, and are trying hard to adapt to this place. The fact is, we do not have that much time left. If we do not dominate this place fast, we might find ourselves being ousted by the Gods currently existing here. Besides, without mortals to worship us, we will soon have to disappear! That is the sorry fate that we are in now......
" But Mother, that's a bit impossible, don't you think? First of all, we would have to fight the Gods that are already here, and that might not be such an easy thing! Pardon me for my insolence, but what makes you think that we would be able to beat them in a fair fight?" The usually cowardly Fabian was the first to protest.
" Fabian! For goodness sake, you are one of the most important Gods in the Yisheigai World! How can you have so little confidence in us, and in yourself? Do not forget that you once dominated a world that was much more complex than this one, so why do you think that you are not good enough to fight them?"
"Bu...but, you know that I hate war, Mother! I'd rather stay the way I am. Even if we disappear......we are not supposed to be here anyway. We are supposed to have been blown away to outer space by Mariteus!"
"Hmmph! I should never have let you become the Underworld God, knowing that you are so cowardly! The Underworld creatures will look down on you, and might try to break free of their constraints! But I wanted to give you a chance! Looks like I was wrong!" She said in contempt.
"I know! You want Mariteus to be God of everything! You always sided with him instead of your own children! Is it because of your conscience which is constantly nibbling at you? Don't forget that you owe a conscience to the rest of your children too!" Fabian protested, being jealous of his half-brother. He stalked out of the room, with his right-hand woman, Danae trailing in his wake anxiously.
"Mother! You shouldn't have talked to him so harshly! You know that he tries hard sometimes!" Arian tried to put in a good word for Fabian, to be rewarded with a fiery glance.
"Sometimes is the operative word! It's not good enough, for I don't see any results coming out of his efforts! And you, what was the idea of sabotaging the research experiments of XXX Company? Don't you think that it would bring too much attention to us? You could expose our plan and ruin it, if you're not careful!"
"Hehe, Mother! What you do not know is that it's only a smoke screen for another secret plan that I'm undergoing. By the time anyone finds out what happened, it will be too late!" Arian laughed uproariously and then smiled mysteriously at Ulaine.
"Well, that's more like it! Maybe you have a future and a brain after all! Tell me about it afterwards, we might put it to use just yet!"
She then directed her glance at Skylar, who had been silent and subdued all the while. She then felt a pang of pity for her, for she knew that Arian had not been treating her well.
"So, Skylar. I heard that you tried to ruin Mariteus' chance for getting back together with his wife. So how did it go?" She enquired softly. This girl isn't half bad, she thought secretly. She could still help her husband even if he treats her like this.
"Huuuh? Oh, Mother. It failed. I tried to seduce his ex-flame into bedding her and snatching away her virginity before Mariteus does while he was away, but out of the blue he appears and foils my plan. I'm sorry, Mother. I'm just so useless." She then sneaked a glance at Arian.
"Hah! I told you that it wouldn't be so easy! Mariteus would not let his dear little wife be touched by that scumbag for one second!" Arian sneered. Actually, he did not mind that his wife had been seducing that good-for-nothing Yoichi, as long as it benefits him.
"Well, at least she tried, didn't she?" Ulaine tried to comfort Skylar with this, seeing the stricken look on her face at Arian's words.
The rest of the gods and goddesses, getting bored with the conversation, started to talk among themselves again. It seems that Ulaine's icy stare had only a few minutes' impact on them.
Ulaine cleared her throat as a signal. They ignored it, and this made her incensed. How could she, the Great Mother God, be disrespected to such an extent? She banged her fist onto the table, causing quite a quake in the room. The party were so startled that some become shell shocked, unable to move.
"I guess it looks like none of you are interested, eh? Well, I don't care if you all start to lose your superpowers and good looks. Don't come running to me then." With that, she stalked to the door, ignoring the imploring glances from Arian, Skylar and one or two of her children who cared.
"Mother, please do not be angry? I think that they are just bored because they do not know what to do to help with Operation World Domination." A husky female voice sounded.
Ulaine immediately became soft-hearted, for this voice belonged one of her favourite children.
She turned around and smiled at the owner of the voice.
"You're right, Eva. I might have been too harsh on them. " She then gazed at her fondly, and realised that her face seemed to have taken on a forlorn expression that tugged at Ulaine's heartstrings. She knew that Eva had been secretly in love with a certain God for a long time, but had kept it so secret that even she, the Great Mother God, didn't know his identity.
"Eva, are you alright? You seemed pretty tired. Maybe you would like to take a rest? I will let you know the outcome of the meeting."
"I'll be alright, Mother, but thanks for your concern." Eva replied softly.
Why is it that all my children are plagued with love problems?!! Ulaine screamed inwardly. What have I done to deserve this? Even if it is because of something I have done, the consequences should have been borne by myself, and not my children! I hate you, Mikamiko!! (Referring to the author, not the love of Mariteus' life)
She then looked around at her children and sighed. On her right sits Arian. Even if he fancies himself as a playboy who could never be hurt, she knew that he harbours a deep, deep wound inside his heart that he would never let anyone see. But, it doesn't escape the eyes of those close around him, like herself, his wife, and Fabian. Yet, the most important person does not know it at all! What an irony!
Speaking of Skylar. She had been neglecting this child lately, and felt extremely guilty about it! This child, who was pitiful enough as it is. Unable to control herself and falling helplessly in love with Arian, even if she knows that he loves another, and can never take that person's place in Arian's heart.
Then there's Fabian! He might look childish and act that way, but his heart harbours a love that is more mature than anyone else's, such that he is willing to become his brother's sidekick, when he cannot stand his attitude towards Skylar!
There are others that she didn't want to think about. The more she thought, the more depressed she would become, and this wasn't going to be good if she was to lead them to dominate the world. But one thing's for sure. If they were going to carry on living in this place, Mariteus must be present, for he was the only one carrying the Sea God's powers. Now, if there is only some way to get rid of Claudine ...... Arggghhh!!!! It seems as if this generation of Yisheigai Gods were cursed in love!!!!!
"...word with you?" A voice broke her flow of thoughts. She looked up to find an unusually serious Arian looking questioningly at her.
"Of course. What is it that you want to talk about?"
"Well, I was thinking that I could put my plan to use, it would be more beneficial to the Operation."
"And your plan is ??"
Ulaine smiled serenely. It indeed was a good plan, and she couldn't think of a better one herself! She had underestimated Arian! Even though he was sometimes an egomaniac and idiot (at least, that was the general impression he gave), he had really outdone himself this time! It changed her impression of him, just a little bit. He was not so useless after all, and she was glad. Maybe, just maybe, she could mould him into the leader of all Gods after the domination has succeeded.
She then cleared her throat for the nth time. By now, some of the Gods and Goddesses present had already fallen asleep, due to sheer boredom. One couldn't blame them, for they had been in a cold air-conditioned room for close to two hours without anything going on. And frankly speaking, some of them were disinterested in the Operation.
Ulaine couldn't be bothered with them. I suppose the others could fill them out with what the contents of the meeting later. I'm tired at wasting my powers on them just to glare at them. She fumed inwardly.
"Alright, Arian has just come up with a plan for World Domination, and I think that it is highly feasible. He has already acted on part of it, which saves us some time. And Time is an extremely precious commodity now. Well done, Arian."
This was the first time that Arian was praised by his Mother in front of his siblings, and it felt damn good. That showed them, for they always thought him stupid and looked down on him. He gazed around in a pleased manner, only to be met by bored and can't-be-bothered expressions. This punctured his balloon quite substantially.
Ignoring the bored expressions on the others' faces, Ulaine continued explaining the plan. Damn if I'm going to help them get away from this meeting so easily, she thought.
"Now, the first part of the plan, is to gain control of the airspace all over the world. This would be quite easy, for XXX Corporation has radio and television stations scattered all over the world. Next, we need a computer programming expert team. The times have changed, and the approach we take must be a high tech one in order to ensure complete success ??
