A Path in the Forest
You follow your two pixie companions down the dirt path. The chirping and tittering of birds fills the air, but try as you might, you are unable to see any of these noisy creatures. Kalika and Rikale giggle as they see your vain attempts.
'The birds are quite loud, but they are very shy,' Kalika informs you. 'They would rather tease you from a distance approach you.' She sighs and shakes her head sadly. Upon questioning her, Rikale takes up the conversation and provides you an answer.
'All of the creatures living in this forest were brought here so that they could live in peace. Their previous homes were... not very friendly, to say the least. That includes the birds. Many of them were hunted for their beautiful feathers, some of which are useful to mages.' She scowls, and you get the impression that neither Rikale nor Kalika are very fond of magic-users.
You look at Kalika and are shocked to see the pixie is paler than normal, her tiny jaw clenched in anger. Her eyes smoulder with fury and remembered pain. Rikale flies to her hurriedly and whispers in her ear. After a few minutes, Kalika calms down and apologizes. 'Forgive me,' she tells you softly, 'but I have had my problems with mages. Pixie wings are prized...' She lets her words trail off.
Shaking slightly, both pixies turn to you with mask-like smiles. 'We are approaching the unicorn waterfall. Within a few minutes we should arrive. Care to continue?'
