You follow the two pixies across the meadow to be confronted by a strange sight : three animals, the likes of which you have never seen before, are coming towards you! You gasp and look wildly for an escape.
'Wait, no! Don't run, these are the xypoids!' Rikale rushes to your side and pulls at the cuff of your sleeve. 'They aren't nearly as mean as they look. Please, give them a chance!' You calm slightly at the pixie's words, and let the creatures approach. You calm more when you realize that they are still very young. They stare at you, and you stare back. You almost laugh aloud at the realization that they appear to be just as curious about you as you are of them.
The largest xypoid approaches you warily. Frankly, you can't blame the creature. It may have never seen a human before. Or, if it is like most of the creatures here, it might have come from a dangerous habitat. You hold out a hand to the xypoid, who sniffs indignantly and pulls away.
'What is this, Rikale? Are we now no better than dogs? Is that what you meant by 'letting humans get to know the mythical animals so they understand us better'? Well I won't stand for it!' The lead xypoid stamps his foot in irritation, and you take a step backwards in alarm.
'Calm down, Griizt, it isn't what you think. This human has never even heard of your kind before, much less met one. Isn't that right?' Kalika asks you, glancing towards you meaningfully. You nod in vigourous agreement.
Griizt grumbles and nods his head towards you. 'Alright then, you are forgiven this time. I suppose you would like an introduction to the others, eh?' You nod at him and make sure to add only if it would not be any trouble. Griizt shakes his head and nods to his companions, who step forward.
'These are my two herdmates, Yorlith,' he nods to the smaller white,' and Sandrin,' he nods to the green. 'We have been together for as long as I remember. We were born close together in the same herd, and when it was decimated by human hunters, we alone escaped.' Griizt sighs wearily, and Yorlith nuzzles him. He licks her neck. You listen sympathetically. 'But, we three are together. Perhaps we can enlarge the herd, when we get older. Or perhaps you would be willing to adopt a xypoid of your own.' Griizt looks at you hopefully. You heart pounds.
You talk with the magnificent creatures for long minutes, although the time seems to pass quickly. Suddenly you look to the sky and notice that you should be going. You bid the xypoids farewell and watch them trot off in the distance.
