Let me tell you of a girl I used to know
At one time this girl was small.
She was sweet and innocent,
always waved and said “Hello!”
A few years ago, she grew up.
That little girl who loved dolls.
said she didn’t like it very much.
She wanted to be more grown-up.
That did it.
She changed herself then and there.
It didn’t take much,
just a hair cut and a new outfit.
For awhile, this change was good.
She gained new friends,
and liked her new self.
She liked saying goodbye to childhood.
Then it hit her.
This wasn’t how life was to be.
She didn’t want to change herself.
All these thoughts were a blur.
Her mind told her that it wasn’t right.
Changing herself to fit with the crowd.
She really didn’t want to show it though.
She didn’t want others to see her in a new light.
At first she was scared it wouldn’t fly
her new self and the person she really was.
She took that chance,
and didn’t go out with that plain old guy.
She was going to stand her ground
and be who she wanted to be.
Her heart and mind took control,
This was really quite profound.
She let herself go,
a task that isn’t too easy.
but somewhere along the line,
she had to let her real self show.
People began to see.
but finally, when she did,
She wasn’t the little girl anymore.
She even became more carefree.
Let me tell you of a girl I used to know
That girl grew up
and that girl is me.
Life is good now, ya know?
