A 5 day training programme on Computer Hardware and Maintenance was organised by the centre in collaboration with WRIC Mumbai during October 25-29 , 2004. The programme was attended by 14 participants form the universities/ institutions in the Northern Region. The various aspects of Computer hardware and the day to day maintenance techniques were discussed in the prgramme. 
"Workshop on Analytical Techniques and Instrumentation for Biological Sciences"
February 7-12, 2000."The USIC at JNU has been active in organising various academic and training programmes for the teachers and students of JNU and affiliated colleges in Delhi and northern India. A six days Workshop on Analytical Techniques and Instrumentation for Biological sciences was organised by USIC at JNU, New Delhi during February 7-12, 2000. The workshop was inaugurated by the Rector of the University Prof. K.L.Sharma and the function was presided over by Dr. R.P. Singh, Adviser, Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology. Prof. Rajendra Prasad welcomed the participants and guests. Speaking on this occasion Dr. Singh said that in India the instrumentation has not been given its due importance. This workshop was organised jointly by University Science Instrumentation Centre (USIC) of Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, and the Training and Education Division of Western Region Instrumentation Centre (WRIC), University of Mumbai. The aim of the workshop was to acquaint the participants from various colleges & universities with the latest analytical techniques and instruments used in teaching and research. About 30 teachers of the colleges ans universities of northern region participated in the workshop. These were from various streams like Life Sciences, Bio-chemistry, Microbiology, Zoology, Instrumentation and Botany etc. Some of sophisticated equipment covered during the workshop were Scanning Electron Microscope, Atomic Force Microscope, Atomic Absorption Spectometer, Liquid Scintillation counters, Electrophoresis, UV & visible spectrophotometer, Liquid Chromatography, Polarimetry and Refractometry, Optical and phosphor Imaging and Auto-radiography, Gas Chromatography. Some awareness about Bio-informatics and troubleshooting and maintenance of instruments among the participants was also created.
