Holle Breaks Speed Record

    The one-lap speed record was broken last night at the Warsaw Speedway by Archie Holle, of Warsaw, during the stock car racing program. The previous record for the one-quarter mile oval was 18.03 seconds. Last night it was turned by Holle in 17.90. The record was broken during the opening night of the race track with the track in excellent condition.
    The large crowd witnessed a spectacular rollover by Glen Owens of Silver Lake that demolished his car. Owens was unhurt except for scratches depite the fact that in the rollover he accidentally released his safety belt. His wife, who was in the stands, was taken to the hospital at the same time as Owens when she fainted during the excitement. Following are the winners of the events.
1st heat - Dick Tarton, of Kendallville; 2nd heat - Dick Parker, of Columbia City; 3rd heat - Don Hartley, of South Whitley; 4th heat - Gail Smith, of Warsaw; 5th heat - Junior Dear, of Columbia City; Six Fastest - Archie Holle, of Warsaw; Main stock event - Jack Hickman, of Columbia City; Feature Event - Bob Staley, of Warsaw.

Hartford City Driver Captures Stock Car Feature

    Oscar Cook, of Hartford City, won the 25-lap stock car feature Saturday night at the Warsaw Speedway as a large crowd took in the races. The 15-lap stock feature was won by Whitley Steiner, of Huntington. Winners of the 10-lap heat races, of which there were four, were Bob Bernhard, of South Whitley, Junior Leiter, of Columbia City, Steiner, and Chuck Grover, of Goshen. Grover also won the race between the six fastest qualifiers, while the 10-lap consolation event was captured by Junior Dear.
    The races were broadcast over Radio Stations WRSW AM and FM from 8:45 to 9:15 for Smith and Wuthrich, Argonne road Sinclair service station. There were several thrills and car collisions during the races, and color and excitement were added by the entry of many new cars, including a racing team of brothers, Cliff and Fred Setsor, from Fort Wayne.
