Large Crowd Sees Bob Staley Win 50-Lap Race
One of the largest crowds of the season won on hand for the stock car races at the Warsaw Speedway Saturday night as two Warsaw drivers and a Columbia City pilot won the feature and consolation events. Bob Staley, Warsaw, won the feature 50-lap race at the quarter-mile oval while Bill Hare, of Columbia City, won the stock feature. Art Smith, of Warsaw, won the consolation race.
Two drivers were taken to the Murphy Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries and later released after they were involved in crack-ups at the track. Paul Grim, of Columbia City, suffered a lacerated lip and Roger Wise, of Wakarusa, was treated for abrasions. Heat race winners were Walt Yoder, of Warsaw; L.C. Drabenstot, Warsaw; Freddie Boggs, Warsaw; Bob Burnhart, South Whitley; Walter Preston Jr., Kokomo; and the dash event of the six fastest qualifiers was won by Bob Staley, of Warsaw.

Warsaw Drivers Star At Speedway
Two feature races were held at the Warsaw Speedway Saturday night, one a delayed running of the scheduled Fourth of July feature that was rained out on that date. It was won by Freddie Boggs of Warsaw with Archie Holle, also of Warsaw, second, and Bob Ziegler of South Bend, third. The regular feature stock car race was won by Bob Staley of Warsaw. Ziegler was second and Holle third.
Max Lambert of Warsaw won the stock feature Saturday. Bob Wiles, of Syracuse, won the consolation event. Staley was first in the race between the six fastest qualifiers. Heat winners were Pealey Heckaman of Bourbon, Bob Albright of Noblesville, Bill Hare of Columbia City, Bezer Humphries of Kokomo, and Bud Stillwell of Logansport. It was Albright's first win in one and one-half years of racing here. Nearly 3,000 fans witnessed the stock car races. There were several spills, with one driver, Ken Bowser of Bourbon, taken to the hospital for examination after a two-car wreck.

Set Records At Local Speedway
It was a record breaking weekend at the Warsaw Speedway Saturday night and Labor Day (Monday) as records for qualifiers and speeds for one lap were broken. In Saturday's action, a record 76 cars qualified for the evening of racing events at the track. Monday night, the standing record of 17 seconds for one lap was smashed by Bob Staley, of Warsaw, with a time of 16.92 seconds. Moments later, Ray Kenans ran a qualifying lap in 16.90 to break the Staley mark. Warsaw's Eldon Burgess escaped injury in a Saturday night race when his car rolled over in front of the grandstand and came to rest upside down with Burgess hanging from his safety belt. Two other autos in the race smashed into the Burgess car and completely demolished the racer.
2 Injured In the two nights of racing, only two men suffered injuries. Glen Owens, of Warsaw, hit the wall Monday night and suffered a lacerated nose while Bob Crago, of Huntington, rolled his auto over the fence on the same night and sustained bruises to the shoulder and leg. Saturday heat winners were Jim Elliott, Warsaw; Donald Gagnon, Beaver Dam; Bezer Humphries, Kokomo; Charles Mann, Claypool; and Hobe Noel, Logansport. Charlie Fortune, Kokomo, won the dash event. Winner of the consolation race was Cap Arnold, of South Bend, while John Davis, of Warsaw, won the stock feature and Ray Kenans, of Delphi, won the feature race.
Monday Results Monday heat winners were Earl Cocklin, of Huntington; Luther Holloway, Columbia City; Bezer Humphries, Kokomo; DeWayne Fox, of Columbia City, and Dick Lynch, of Claypool. Ray Kenans, of Delphi, won the dash event for the six fastest qualifiers. Oscar Cook, of Hartford City, won the consolation event while Ben Simmers, of Columbia City, won the stock feature and Bob Staley, of Warsaw, won the feature. The races are broadcast from 9 to 9:30 p.m. over WRSW AM/FM, sponsored by three Mobil dealers and Silveus and Bradway, distributors of Kosciusko County.
