Connor's Story!

February 14, 2006 ~ Happy Valentine's Day, I'm Pregnant!
Yes I found out I was pregnant with Connor on Valentine's Day! Best gift ever! Of course we were very scared but also very excited!!! Sophia was going to be a Big Sister!

I had my mind set that I was going to enjoy this pregnancy no matter what happened. After all we went through with Sophia, I was scared, but I didn't want to live in fear. So I made myself be positive!

April 17, 2006 ~ Cerclage Day!
Since we know why Sophia was so early, my OB(Dr P) decided to do a cerclage(a stitch in my cervix) as a precaution.
I had taken Sophia to my mom's house the day before(easter sunday) so Wayne and I packed a bag and headed to the hospital. It was the longest day ever! Everything went well with the procedure and I was sent home the next day. My mom brought Sophia home and she was just happy to be with Momma again. :)

June 1, 2006 ~ It's a BOY!!!!
After much debate, Wayne and I decided to find out the sex of the baby this time :) We took Sophia with us so she could find out too. She loved watching the screen while the tech did the u/s. When she told us it was a boy, I was shocked! I thought for sure it was another girl! After that, Wayne took Sophia to the waiting room so the tech could finish up. As soon as he left, I cried! I really wanted another girl, but I'm SOO happy I have my boy now! I'm in love :)

July 5, 2006 ~ I DID IT!!!
This day was very special for me! It was the day I hit 24 weeks in my pregnancy and wasn't on bedrest at all! It was fabulous! In fact, I walked around the festival the night before and felt great! I had dreaded it so much because Sophia was born at 24 weeks. Hitting that mark really put me at ease. I was able to really enjoy my pregnancy and know that if anything happened from that point on, he would be okay!

October 4, 2006 ~ Fullterm and Good bye Stitch!
This was also a very exciting day! I got my cerclage taken out and after a little discussion, Dr. P decided to induce me! Unbelievable! First baby came too early and this was being forced out! LOL I was 37 weeks at this appt, but I was having alot of pelvic pain and they were saying baby was going to be big according to u/s. Plus I had excess fluid and a history of quick labor. Add that all up and it equals induction! I dilated 2cm as soon as the dr took the stitch out so everyone thought I'd go before the induction. Wrong!

October 9, 2006 ~ Baby Day!!!
Wayne and I dropped Sophia off at Michelle's house and then we headed to the hospital. I was soo excited and nervous! We were finally going to get to meet our little boy!
We arrived at the hospital at 8am. I got all signed in and taken to my room. The nurse did all the paperwork, then checked to see how dilated I was. 4cm. Not bad. She decided to let me walk the halls before starting the induction. While walking the halls, we ran into Dr. K., the NICU dr who took care of Sophia. She was thrilled to see us and even happier that I was full term! Love her!
At 10:15am, we went back to the room and started the meds. I was sad because I wouldn't be able to walk around anymore due to having to be on the monitors. But I managed to deal with it. Played cards with Wayne, watched tv, ect.
Around 11am or so, Mom and Dad Mel came up. Mom and I played cards, but the contractions were starting to bother me too much and my back was killing me. The nurse decided to have my lay on my side and have Wayne and Mom rub it to ease the pain.
Around noon, Mom and Dad left and it was just Wayne, me and the contractions! hehe. Around 1pm the nurse asked me if I wanted anything for pain and we finally decided on a half dose of Stadol. I was hesitant because I had had that with Sophia and it really made me loopy. But I knew I needed to get some rest so I could be more effective later on. As soon as the meds hit my hand, I was out! I slept for 2 hours.
Around 3pm, Dr P came in and checked me. I was at 5cm. Sames as I was when the nurse checked me at 1pm. Slow progress. Dr decided to break my water to see if we could get things going. Boy did that get things going!
About 5-10 minutes later, the contractions really started coming on. I told Wayne to get the nurse. She checked me and I was 6cm! Shortly after that(I'm talking maybe 10 minutes), I made him go get her again because I felt like I had to push! Yep. Nurse Nancy comes in, checks me, I'm ready to go!!!! So in less than 20 minutes I went from half way to complete!! Yippie!! Let's have a baby!!!!
I started pushing and Dr P came in. Started putting draping up, getting stuff together. Tells me he is going to give me an episiotomy because he's afraid I'm gonna tear since I went so fast. A little pinch, horrible cutting sound. A few more pushes....

My Baby boy is here!!!!!
Connor Alexander was born at 3:54pm on October 9, 2006. After a labor of 5hrs 39 min! A little less than double what Sophia's labor was! He was a litle sleepy at first and wasn't responding. I was freaking out! They called the NICU team down. By the time they got there, he was breathing fine and looked good! Funny thing though, they saw the last name, recognized Wayne and I and immediately started talking about Sophia!!!! Amazing! Another interesting thing. The same nurse that Delivered Sophia was my labor nurse with Connor! How cool is that?
Wayne stood by the warming bed as they got Connor all measured and cleaned up. Connor then decided he would pee all over the nurses. Hit all 3 of them! Good boy! Then the brought him over to me! He had a full head of dark brown hair! Shocking considering Sophia was bald til she was 2yrs old! He also had a perfectly round head. No cone head here! He was also very tiny. He was 6lb 9oz and was so little. He had(and still has) the tiniest features. His face was so small. I instantly fell in love.

So there you have it! The story leading up to his birth and his birth story itself. Connor is such a wonderful baby. He's a very happy baby just like his sister was. I feel so blessed to have my two wonderful children!
