Have You Kept The Ten Commandments?

Do you think that you have kept the Ten Commandments?
Most of us will answer that we have kept most of them.

We all think we're a pretty good - we're really not a bad person, are we?

To see ourselves in God's eyes we need to see how we measure up to His standards. God gave us the Ten Commandments to show us our real selves and our need for Him. Answer these ten questions below and see how YOU measure up.

Have you ever told a lie? Even one little white lie?
Okay, what does that make you? A LIAR!

Have you ever stolen anything, even if it's small?
What does that make you? A THIEF!

Have you ever used God's name in vain?
That makes you a BLASPHEMER! You have taken the name of your Creator and made it into a curse word.

How are you measuring up so far? If you've been honest you've answered yes to all three. That makes you a lying, thieving, blasphemer! But wait! There's more!

Have you ever lusted after a man or a woman?
That makes you an ADULTERER! Maybe you haven't actually committed adultery physically but the Bible says if we even look at another man or woman with lust in our hearts we have committed adultery in our hearts. God doesn't just look at the outward, He looks at the intentions of the heart, too.

Have you ever murdered someone?
Then you are a MURDERER! You're probably saying, hey, here's one I haven't done. But the Bible says if we hate our brother we have committed murder in our hearts. Again, He is looking at the intention of our hearts as well as the outward acts. And let's face it, there are some who would have physically done what was in their hearts if it weren't for the fact that it was against the law and they might get caught.

So far, if you've been honest with yourself, you are a lying, thieving, blaspheming, adultering, murderer. And that's only five commandments!

Have you ALWAYS put God first in your life?

Have you ALWAYS honored your father and mother?

Have you ALWAYS set aside the Lord's day for worship?

What about idols? Is God who you worship or do you have other things such as sports, tv, work, etc. that you love more?

Do you covet your neighbors goods? Always wanting what others have?

The Bible says if we even break ONE Commandment even ONE time we are guilty of ALL of them! James 2:10 says "For whosoever shall keep the whole law and yet offend in one point (break ONE) he is guilty of ALL .

Think about this:
When you do something wrong you know it, right? You get that little feeling way down in your gut that says this is something you shouldn't be doing, thinking or saying. Sometimes you listen to that gut feeling and sometimes you ignore it. That is the 'light' God has given every man. We call it our conscience (con + science). It means 'with knowledge'. Whenever we sin we do it 'with knowledge' that what we're doing is wrong. God puts that in each and every man. We all know when we've done wrong. We all know we shouldn't murder our fellow man or steal from him or that lying is wrong. Who can trust a liar? All of mankind is without excuse. No one will be able to stand before God on judgment day and say they didn't know they were doing wrong. We are ALL GUILTY.

We all deserve HELL.

Can we cover up our sin? Some think by doing good deeds we can cover up our bad deeds, kind of like balancing the scale.

If a person murders someone and then spends the rest of their life helping the poor, giving to charities, doing all kinds of good deeds will that cover up the murder or make it go away? NO! The murder was committed and nothing they do can change that.

If a person has sex outside of marriage just one time and then regrets it so decides they will never have sex again the rest of their lives to atone for what they did will that then turn them back into a virgin? NO! The deed has been done and nothing they do can reverse that.

We can not cover up our sins and make ourselves ready for Heaven by doing good deeds.

The fact is God did not make the Ten Commandments as a way for us to get to Heaven. He made them to show us our sin. God is Holy and can't have sin around Him so we can't go to Heaven in our sinful condition.

Yet God WANTS us to be in Heaven with Him. He created us to spend eternity with him. So how are we going to get to Heaven when we are so full of sin?

There is Good News! GOD came to earth to pay the penalty for our sin by dying on the cross and taking the punishment we deserve for our sins upon Himself!

He could have let US suffer the consequences of our sin. But He loves us so much that He came to earth, lived the perfect life for us that we couldn't live ourselves, was beaten, mocked and nailed to a cross. He took the punishment we deserved upon Himself. That is perfect love!

We don't have to wonder or worry about where we will spend eternity if we turn to Jesus and trust what He did for us on the cross.

God calls people everywhere to repent. Turn from your sin. Ask Jesus to forgive you. Ask Him to come into your heart and be your Lord and Savior. Turn from trusting in yourself and turn and follow Jesus. He will forgive all your sins, past, present and future. He will make you His child. And you will know for sure you are going to Heaven when you die.

The Bible says "These things I have written to you who believe (repent and turn to Jesus) in the name of the Son of God that you may KNOW that you HAVE Eternal Life."

Heaven or Hell.......it's YOUR CHOICE!
