"Floss 'N Gloss" was in its fourth strait year of participation in
the St. Patrick Day Parade in Muncie, Indiana. The parade started
at Muncie Central High School parking lot and traveled south about
six or seven blocks and then made a loop and returned to the parking
lot. There were hundreds of parents with their kids lined the roads.
This years parade was on March 13, 2004. It was scheduled for the
Saturday before the actual holiday, which allowed most families the experience
of the fesitivties.
There was scheduled to be ten vehicles in the parade,
and in the last week of preparations there was a few members
who had to miss the parade due to work or needed work on their
vehicle(s). Even on the day of the parade there was two
cancelations/no shows and so the end result was a total of six
vehicles(for the second strait year) and sixteen idividuals
participating in the FNG portion of the parade.
Three years ago(2001), the only representation of the club was via
the President and a Vice President who were in
Roy's
Camaro(president).
Two years ago(2002) the lineup was planned to include almost a dozen
customized rides, but last minute drops cut the total to half that.
Optimistically and realistically it was obvious to see a nice
improvement on the previous years representation.
Last year(2003) was even bigger than the previous years and that
is the goal to our club. We want every year to grow in
representation, in quality, in exhibition, and in fun.
This year the parade was due to start at 11:30am, so Roy and Will
was there at 10:45 and the others began to arrive in a timely
fashion. We were given group #33 and that was out of 40+ groups.
This years parade had five vehicles and a total of fourteen
participants. Below is a list of the order the vehicles were in:
Roy Davis and Kim Davis(Roy's Sister) were first in Roy's
1995 Teal
Camaro. They were tossing candy out to the crowd while
playing traditional St. Patrick Day music at 147 db's.
Second in the lineup was Suzanne Sallee(Roy's Girlfriend) in
her 1995 Sunburst Orange Chevy Cavalier. She was joined by her cousin Ruby King.
Suzanne was sneaky and stole a stash of candy from Roy to toss out
to the crowd. Both were surprised at how much fun the parade really
was.
Next in line was Will Said and his
2002 Red Neon
R/T. This was the
first time that anyone in the club saw the new look of the Neon.
Thats because on the previous weeks, Will got a JT Auto Body kit put
on the car. Will was joined by Stacy Said(wife), Billy Said(son), Nora
Reeves(friend), and Nora's Daughter. I had to wonder if there was more
candy thrown out of the car or eaten by the kids.
Then there was Clay Betty 1977 Yellow AMX. This was the first year
that Clay was able to make the parade. He was joined by Andrea
Shockley(Clay's Girlfriend) and Andrea's sisters daughter. They tossed
out candy while letting everyone know what a classic ride looks
like.
Following Clay was Casey Carper driving a 2002 Yellow Chevy Cavalier.
She was joined by Danielle Webster. They both tossed out candy and
waved to the crowd to show their St. Patrick Day spirit.
And in the last spot was Jason Carper. His
2001 Red
Chevy Blazer Extreme. He got the ride less than a week before
the parade, so he was quickly getting his ride ready. He was joined
by his girlfriend Krista Thatcher. They brought up the rear and the group
found out later that some of their candy was stolen from Roy as
well.
Braging rights...."FNG" was AGAIN the only car club in
representation at the parade. That made it four strait years
in a row that "Floss 'N Gloss" was the only car club in
representation.
"FNG" has grown considerably in the last few years and will be
much larger in 2004. Keep an eye out for the us...you will be
surprised in our progress.
A big THANK YOU goes to Ervin Davis and the Morningside Crime
Watch who funded a great deal for the parade. The managers
at Fazoli's agreed to give everyone in our group a free drink.
Also, Roys family, all of the "FNG" members as well as everyone else
who participated in,
supported, and helped make the St. Patrick Day Parade what it
was.....THANK YOU!
After the parade was over, we went to Fazoli's and got something
to eat. Tameka Knight(student at Ball State) did an interview on a
few members for an upcoming paper. After all of that Roy, Will, and
Steve went to Big-O-Tire and worked out a rim/tire deal for Steve's
Tiburon.
