Overview:

Designed and built during the height of the Star League's power, the Titan SLC-586CM was one of the more common Industrial 'Mechs in the Terran Hegemony. Produced by General Mechanics, creators of the Wasp, the Titan is construction tool with many more uses than average equipment. Containing a built in crane along with a multi-use arm the Titan shaved months of the building time of new projects.

Capabilities:

Mounting a huge General Motors 200 engine the Titan is capable of keeping up with most other large scale equipment and few obstacles can stop it, making it ideal for construction jobs in remote and difficult to reach areas. Its large feet have been designed to have a low kilogram per square meter pressure, which allows the Titan to move over ferrocrete without damaging it. It also allows the Titan to head through marshes without being stuck in the mud.
In the left torso sits a General Mechanics lift crane. Although unable to lift things very high, the Titan has a large weight limit when lifting. The right arm has been designed to be replaced with various tools to help build. The four most common are a backhoe for digging, an advanced crane arm for skyscrapers, a regular lifting arm and an attachment arm with welding and riveting equipment.

Variants:

Most variants of the Titan simply use a different right arm, though some exchange the crane in the left torso for cargo carrying ability.
One variant, dubbed the SLC-590CM mounts weapons; this design is often seen in the Deep Periphery. It lightens the structure somewhat and removes the crane. In return, it mounts an LRM-10 with one ton of ammo in the left torso and two machine guns with a half-ton of ammo in the right torso. It also mounts another half ton of armor. The backhoe arm is generally used as a melee weapon on this machine.

Deployment

Many core worlds in the Inner Sphere use these machines, though all are centuries old and suffering from neglect. In a welcome move, Defiance Industries has announced that it will begin building new Titans for Star League member states.
