Overview:

The Viper Artillery Truck is a simple and efficient bit of equipment. Designed to cheaply provide fire support to units engaged in battle, the Viper mounts a single Arrow IV battery capable of raining down destruction. Converted from a heavy duty civilian transport rig,   the cargo section in back has been torn down to house the missile launcher and components. Although slow and possessing no point defense, a group of Vipers can quickly destroy even heavy BattleMechs with artillery fire.

Capabilities:

Though the Viper has had a relatively short history, the vehicle has already become something of a white elephant in the AFFS. This is due mostly to the fact that the vehicle is converted from civilian trucks and so many doubt its capabilities. Adding to this resistance is the fact that the Viper is sold as a kit of parts with instructions and the units must actually construct the vehicles.
Despites this, units that have used the Viper regard it well, it's Fox Eye 210 Area Effect targeting system is compact and accurate, allowing easy correction of targeting coordinates. The system can also function with TAG spotting systems, allowing the Viper to fire homing missiles that can level enemy units.
The large Jones engine carries a large amount of fuel, enabling the Viper the advantage of remaining on the move. Also included is the EmissionKill system first used on the Magistracy of Canopus's Pike Support Vehicle. This system cuts down on emissions and lowers the heat signature of the machine, enabling it to hide more effectively.

Variants:

Some have suggested using a Thumper, Sniper or even Long Tom instead of the Arrow IV Battery. However, Fox-Tech is disinclined to tamper with the design, as it is still proving itself.

Deployment

From their headquarters on New Avalon, Fox-Tech has been sending Viper kits to militia units across the Federated Suns. Recently, sales to the Lyran Commonwealth were approved and the first shipment has already been sent.
