Chief Motor Machinist Mate Lester Hartley was with the USS Jarvis at the 1010 dock during the Pearl Harbor attack.  He was transferred by the Navy to training school in Norfolk, thus missing by a few months the horrible sinking of the Jarvis.

Chief Hartley's recall of names, dates, and other detail was astounding.  In this interview we heard his first hand account of the attack, the activities of the USS Jarvis in the weeks following, and the story of the death of the Jarvis and its crew.
