Course Description
Vocational Work Study, is it for you?
The focus of the Vocational Work Study program is to develop and promote the transition from school to work. This experience will help you acquire marketable skills, become aware of career goals, learn to work with others, gain on-the-job experience and earn money.
As a Vocational Work Study student, your daily schedule will differ from that of the regular Portage High School student. You will be accepting new responsibilities. You will also have more freedoms. Your success in the Portage High School Vocational Work Study program depends greatly upon how YOU handle your freedom and responsibilities. Students attend school half-day plus work a minimum of fifteen hours per week.
If you are:
- A high school senior
- Have good school attendance, citizenship, drivers license and reliable transportation
- Commitment to work in a preferred occupation
- Show reasonable promise of success in the occupation
- Show the ability to be responsible on the job and in the related classroom training
Then you may want to visit your high school counselor and request an application to become a part of this school to work program.
