Aaron deMontalvo

Theatre BIO and Résumé

BIO

Born and raised in various parts of California, Aaron deMontalvo finally obtained a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of the Pacific before moving to Texas and taking a faculty position with the Texas Tech University School of Pharmacy in Abilene, TX.

So…how is a pharmacist also a playwright?  Since his youth, Aaron was resolved to be a writer.  What kind of writer?  It didn’t matter.  What did matter was that he never became a “starving artist.”  But how?  Serendipity found Aaron while discussing professions with a friend.  This friend informed Aaron that he was going to be a pharmacist.  Why?  So he could be a carpenter.  Pharmacy would be a financial means to his true passion’s end: carpentry.  Having a penchant for mathematics and science himself, Aaron followed the same line of reasoning as his friend’s, and he too sought to become a pharmacist.  While at pharmacy school, as fortune would have it, he saw a small flyer on a kiosk in the middle of the student union calling for submissions for the University of the Pacific Department of Drama and Dance 10th Annual Petite Play Festival.  An idea immediately leapt into his head, and Aaron sat down to write his first play.  This play won first place in the festival and his passion of passions was born.

Since then, Aaron’s plays have received full productions or staged readings from coast to coast including the recent Off-off Broadway production of his one-act play George and Sam.

Besides being a playwright, Aaron is also a husband, father, poet, award-winning photographer and Polaroid manipulation artist, and… of course… a pharmacist.  Aaron currently resides in Arlington, TX, with his wife, two daughters, two dogs, and a cynical, obsessive-compulsive, imaginary squirrel he calls Charlie.

Favorite Quote:

Alice laughed: "There's no use trying," she said;  "one cannot believe impossible things."

"I daresay you haven't had much practice," said the Queen.  "When I was your age, I always did it for half-an-hour a day.  Why, sometimes I've believed in as many as six impossible things before breakfast."

--Lewis Carroll, "Through the Looking Glass"
