In a decisive U-turn, private engineering colleges in Karnataka have announced they will not sign the consensual agreement unless the government agrees for a fee hike for engineering courses for the next academic year. With this, the stalemate on the Common Entrance Test (CET), that holds the key to professional courses in the state, will continue.
On February 22, the Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering Colleges Association (KUPECA) had agreed to sign the consensual agreement with the government at the present fee structure and seat matrix for the 2014 admissions. However, the discontent among members was soon visible as many of them wanted an increase in the fee. KUPECA met on Tuesday and decided not to sign the agreement if its demand for a fee hike was not met.
