Pepsi Blue's Secret Ingredient
:
Pepsi Blue, a beverage that has been in the works since August of last year, would baffle many consumers. How did Pepsi, a brown colored beverage, turn blue? Earlier this year Chief Executive Roger A. Enrico departed from PepsiCo and information on this beverage leaked out. The blue color was optained from Blue 1 and the blood of Octopi. After testing out numerous types of substances, octopus blood, which is naturally blue, was the only thing that could get it "that" blue. PepsiCo CEO Steve Reinemund denies these accusations, "We would only use FDA approved ingredients," says Reinemund. Other employees, who work in development, admitted to this secret ingredient, but wished to remain anonymous to prevent them from losing their job. "We tried using oysters, but several of the taste testers died" says one PepsiCO employee. So is octopus blood a safer ingredient? "We had one guy claim he had seen the light before his eyes turned blue, but we think he was a fruit to start with" says another employee of PepsiCO, "and only 2 people went blind this time, so we think we have a markatable product." Pepsi Blue ships out this August, and with this new beverage out how far will Coka-Cola be with a similar product.
