Standard | This is the most common match in the business. To win the match, you must secure a pinfall or sumbission. If your opponent is disqualified, you will be awarded the victory. Grounds for disqualification include: Choking, eye gouging, illegal use of the ropes, interference, use of a foreign object, throwing your opponent over the top rope(Atlantic Championship matches only), and striking in the groin. |
Tag Team | A tag team match pits two duos against each other. One man from each team will battle it out in the ring while their partners await a tag on the ring apron. After the tag, the team has five seconds to wear out their opponent with doubleteam maneuvers. To obtain a victory, you must score a pinfall or a sumbission. Tag team matches follow the same disqualification guidelines as a standard match, but also includes the following: Illegal doubleteam. |
Triple Threat | Three men will enter the ring, one will come out the victor. This match has the same rules as a standard match, except one more wrestler is thrown into the mix. The first grappler to score a pinfall or a submission takes the match. If a wrestler is disqualified during the match, he is simply removed from the match and recieves a loss, in which case, the match will take on standard rules for the remainder of the contest. |
Hardcore | In a hardcore match, anything goes. There are no disqualifications. The only way to win the match is by pinfall or submission. The fall can be made either inside or outside the ring. Hardcore matches are notorious for the use of foreign objects and allowing brawls to occur in such places as the parking lot or in the crowd. In a hardcore match, a chairshot is just as legal as a bodyslam. |
Battle Royal | Battle Royals are one of the most enjoyable matches to view as a spectator, but for the actual participants, it's a living hell. In a Battle Royal, a predetermined number of wrestlers will enter the ring and once the bell rings, total mayhem ensues. The goal is to throw each and every other competitor out of the ring so that you are the last one standing. To be eliminated, you must be thrown over the top rope and BOTH feet must touch the floor. Anything is legal in this match, the only rules are no outside interference and no foreign objects in the ring. The last man in the ring is the winner. |
Tornado | A tornado match is your basic tag team match...without the tag. In a tornado match, two teams of two face off with all four men in the ring at once. A tornado match follows the same disqualification rules as a standard match. There are three ways to win a tornado match: Either wrestler from one team must pin either wrestler from the other team, make one wrestler from one team submit, or disqualification. |
Ladder | Ladder matches are one of the most brutal, high risk matches ever devised. The participants start in the ring, with a belt, briefcase, etc. hanging fifteen feet above the center of the ring. A ten-foot ladder is placed in the walkway. There are no disqualifications in this match, anything goes. To win the match, the ladder must be brought into the ring and ascended to grab the belt. If the first ladder becomes damaged, there'll usually be at least one standby ladder underneath the ring. |
Handicap | A handicap match follows the same rules as a standard match. A handicap match pits one AWA Superstar against two or more other AWA Superstars, who are all in the ring at once. In order to win, the lone wrestler must defeat one of his opponents, or one of his opponents must defeat him. ALL rules from a standard match are applicable. |
Fatal-Fourway | This match follows standard match rules, but pits four wrestlers against one another all at once. If a wrestler is disqualified, the match turns into a triple threat match. The winner of this match is the first wrestler to score a pinfall or submission over ANY one of his opponents. |
Casket | This is your basic Hardcore match, except for the fact that there's a double-deep, double-wide casket at ringside. There is only one condition to win this match...stuff your opponent into the casket AND slam the lid shut. Once the lid has been closed all the way, the match is over. The casket is positioned on one side of the ring, directly touching the ring apron. Once one of the wrestlers is near the casket, the referees will open the lid. Pinfalls and submissions mean nothing. |
First Blaze | This disturbing match pits combatants against one another in an anything goes bout. Wrestlers begin the match outside the ring, and in the center of the ring is a blow torch. To win this match, you must light your opponent on fire. The flames do not have to come from the blow torch. You can light your opponent ablaze using whatever's available, the blow torch is simply there for the wrestlers' convenience. |
First Blood | In this match, the whole goal is to bust your opponent open. Anything goes, there are no pinfalls, submission, or disqualifications. The only way to win is to draw blood from your opponents upper torso. The first person to do so wins. |
New Jersey Street Fight | Made famous by a legendary clash between the Super Bastardo Bros. and the Masters, the New Jersey Street Fight is your basic hardcore match, pitting two teams of wrestlers against one another. The teams of wrestlers don't have to have an equal number of participants. To win the match, a member of one team must get a pinfall or submission over a member of the opposing team. Oh, and the fight takes place on the mean streets of New Jersey, of course. |
Cage | In this match, the wrestlers are confined inside of a fifteen foot high steel mesh structure surrounding the ring. There are no pinfalls, submissions, or disqualfications. There are two ways to win, climb out over the top of the cage, or exit through the door in the corner of the cage. In some cage matches, the door is chained shut, and wrestlers MUST climb out over the top. This is a dangerous match, not only because of the environment, but because the mesh structure was bought from an old promotion that was going out of business and is quite old. The condition of the structure is suspect, and the probability of a malfunction is very high. |
Pain Games | This match involves a predetermined number of participants whose entry into the match are chosen via random drawing. The match starts with the first three competitors in the ring at the same time, and continues with the wrestlers attempting to eliminate their opponents by either pinning them, making them submit, or tossing them over the top rope so that both feet touch the floor. Once one wrestler has been eliminated, the next wrestler enters to take his spot. No more than three wrestlers are in the competition at one time. To win this match, a wrestler must be the last man standing, eliminating all of the opposition. There are no disqualifications. |
Can of Beer on a Pole | This match is of the no disqualifiction variety. There are no pins or submissions. In one corner of the ring, attached to the ringpost, is a fifteen foot wooden pole. Atop this pole is a full can of beer. To win the match, one must climb the turnbuckle, grab the can, and drink the beer. This match was created on a whim by Commissioner W. William Suhgs. |
