To Laura On Her Special Day: October 2, 1998 by William Andrew Harris

This poem was actually the introduction for a scavenger hunt for my birthday.

Dear Laura, It's your Birthday!

Twenty-one you have turned

I know what you're thinking:

"Some presents I've earned.

Gift upon gift - pile after pile.

I'll open - say 'thanks' and then I will smile.

Oh - how I love this great time of year

Lots of free stuff - I just sit on my rear."

Llew - I'm so sorry to ruin your dream.

Things here today aren't quite as they seem.

My job is to help you survive in this world.

In life, what you get is just what you earn.

If you don't work, then I'm afraid you will burn.

So, to help you live life to not fry when you're dead

Tonight, no free gifts! You're working instead.

Your gifts you must seek - all over Provo

To find - you must search: search high and search low.

I'm sorry to hurt you - for being so blunt,

But if you want gifts: the you'll treasure-hunt!

The rules that now follow, you must obey.

If you do not, you will not play!

And if you don't play this neat game of mine -

No gifts for Laura until Christmas time!

Rule Number 1 - You'll stand out in a crowd,

But finding a clue - you'll read it out loud.

Rule Number 2 - Please don't take all day.

You will have to drive and PLEASE don't delay.

Rule Number 3 - You'll get a new gift with each clue you find,

But if you don't finish, you leave ALL gifts behind!

Rule Number 4 - "Why hurry?" you say.

Because at 9 o'clock, no longer we play!
