Ode to Llew

The boy resents being called old,

it's as if his heart had already grown cold.

"Why, I'm no older than the oak I planted in my yard,

It's now twelve feet tall and the bark is tough and hard."

But he rather liked the girl named Llew

and thought it nice that she adored the creatures in the zoo.

Even though the other poems were very witty

the boy thought it would be a pity

if Ms. Llew ever had to reach for a hankie--

this poem is just a way of saying, "thank yee,"

fer being the sassy girl who makes tapes

for the boy who acts like he belongs with the apes.

So he finally said, "you're the sweetest girl I've met in a long time-

Don't forget me or I'll crawl back into a mine

and my heart will indeed have grown old

and my soul will turn into mold."
