braid
1. how did you get into braid?
a friend who worked in a record store told me i'd like them so i bought the cd. funnily enough i didn't like them at first - now they pretty much define what i love about music.
2. top 5/10 braid songs.
10?! i'll just have to pick some at random - do you love coffee?, strawberry ann, forever got shorter, movie clock star, nineteen75, grand theft autumn, katykat, first day back, breath in, now i'm exhausted ...
3. top 3/5 braid lyrics.
'dulcet earful i dance loud lull and my chance i took the reigns and resustained but lost my eyes in victorian hazel' 'you were born to be an actor you ease like a somersault sicky happy go lucky set this sacristy with saccharin' 'if age is grace i'm amazing age gone greys i'm just gone if age is grace somebody save me age gone greys i'm an amazing disgrace' 'a summer of sound a circus of circuits forget all the why a coffin of car parts a cast iron carnival ride' (this whole last section of movie clockstar) 'breathing your normal nico-teenager learning less of lessons every time he talks now it seems i care more about caring less writing what meant what and asking not - is you autumn attic full? am i your automatic fool?' (i really like all the wording and relate to pretty much all of this song)
4. favorite braid song lyrically:
there's not really one, but i'll just say grand theft autumn
5. favorite braid song musically:
maybe american typewriter. or forever got shorter ... no, do you like coffee or strawberry ann. could you really be a braid fan if you could pick just one?
6. favorite braid moment (shows, song, etc):
i live in australia so i never saw a show. i think my defining braid moment was, after i'd bought frame and canvas and really liked it, i remembered i'd bought movie music one and had sort of put it aside. so i sat down in my big comfy arm chair at night, with the lyric booklet, and listened to the whole thing while reading the lyrics. i was buzzing, and that was when i knew braid were special. they've been my favourite band since.
7. moment(s) that braid was the soundtrack for your life:
probably from 1999 to now. which is sort of ironic, really ...
8. what braid song(s) take you back to a certain moment?
the entirety of movie music one takes me back to that armchair moment. it makes me all warm and fuzzy.
9. favorite braid member and why:
geez, i guess i'd go with the crowd and say bob. but if it was a beauty contest, you couldn't go past chris.
10. favorite non-braid band/project featuring braid member(s):
the sky corvair. hey mercedes and the firebird project tie in close second.
11. moment/habit that proves you are crazy about braid:
i have a set of minidiscs i've made with every braid song in order of recording date. i listen to these exclusively whenever i'm walking or on the train. i also have this really bad habit of listening to a band for the first time and thinking 'they're good, but they're no braid'.
12. most bizarre braid trivia you know:
they were really a puppet band like milli vanilli. no, i've got nothing ...
site
1. how did you get involved with CAS?
i've been looking for braid sites for ages, and i noticed an entry about CAS in the braid livejournal community.
2. what would you like to do/see more on this site?
only really impossible stuff, like intimate insider information. or song meanings from the band members themselves. what gear they all were using on every recording, the EQ and guitar settings, drum tunings, etc. etc. nerdy, impossible stuff ... really rare and hard to find songs from related bands.
