make your own dear neal ep!!
Here's a few songs that you can put together and download for your very own dear neal EP. The songs were either cut off of cds, written after the demise of dear neal, made as gifts, or too personal to put out. Regardless, I've compiled several to give to you, because some of you are interested in this sort of thing. And far be it for me to stop getting attention in the area I can. So anyway, here's the last few songs you'll hear with me and an acoustic, as other interests have taken my attention. Please enjoy, and if you're feeling crafty, design your cd cover art. Thank you, and thanks Amanda for support and love and all the other things that a good fisherman/chef/photographer needs.
THE HEY BAXTER EP
1. Camel Cash- This song was last recording I've done. It's the third installment of the Texas Songs of Regret. I like to think of the song on these terms: When I party with certain friends, from time to time I'm asked to play a few songs. I usually put up a good fight before giving in and playing a few songs. A friend of mine once commented that "You really do like to play. You can say that you don't all that you want, but you really do like to play. But I think that you like partying more. And when you play, it prevents you from partying. So when you do, it's just to get it out of the way." I like the partying.
2. Austin Trailer Blues- Here's the second Texas of the trilogy. I originally wanted to set this song in the city of Port Arthur, TX. I ended up changing it to Austin, because of the feeling of people working to get by is present there, just a little bit more than Port Arthur. Not that there is no work done there, by any means. But it's just too tourist-ie for the song. I'm sure someone out there is filling the hole however and writing songs about murder in Disneyland or Myrtle Beach.
3. Hey Toby- Toby was one of the first people that showed interest in the whole dear neal thing. I wrote this song as a thank you. She's done quite a bit of advertising for me. Her sister Lacy, set me up with my first show, which was with some great bands from Plan-It X. For all this, I am very grateful. The recording really does scream a Mountain Goats rip. Oh well. Imitation is the highest form of flattering.
4. A Math Poem- Nothing special about this one. The song sounds alot like Needle in the Hay by Elliot Smith. The title is an inside joke, and the recording wasn't exactly to my liking. I intended for the lyrics to be "spoke" closer together. But as odd timing would have it, I never rearranged the song to do so.
5. The End of Last Night- I really wish this song was better than it was. It was written for someone special in my life. Someone that turned this heartless bastard, into a bastard with a heart. Here's to you Amanda, and here's to any given empty parking lot in Bristol that just might randomly spawn a carnival.
6. Lori Meyers- Ah yes. The cover. I did several covers with dear neal. Most of them Velvet Underground covers. Until one day, I overstepped my boundaries, saying that no band deserves to do a Velvet Underground cover. It was quickly pointed out to me that I'd done the covers too. So then I shut up. Thanks Eric. (click that). Anyway, this is a NOFX cover. If you ever hear me talk about in public, you'll hear me say this: "I really think that NOFX forgot that they were NOFX when they wrote this song." Of course I wanted to do a duet, but didn't.
7. Song for an Art Major- I wrote this song shortly after I realized that I must kill dear neal. It's pretty self explanatory. I'm not a huge fan of artists. There's a line in the Bible that says "The meek shall inherit the earth." I may be wrong, but I don't believe the aforementioned line was about artists.
So there ya go. Enjoy. I'm writing songs for a new band now. Wish me luck in it's endeavors. Hopefully soon, we'll be coming to a town near you.
Sincerely,
Tim
