Biography

Summer 2002: During an impromptu street performance in New Brunswick, a disheveled man of about 60 years of age approached the band. First, he told us of his past exploits as a keyboardist and guitarist. He then wanted to hear a song and we kindly obliged. More conversation passed and a strong bond was formed. This eccentric stranger became a Virgil to our Dante, as he was able to guide us with his wisdom. As we were about to part ways, he summarized Lieutenant Fuzz better than anyone else has. "You've got talent. Yes, you're talented. But, you're very selfish." I thought about what he said for a moment and let it sink in. I shouted, "Thanks for the advice, friend." "I'm not your friend," he replied as he boarded his rusty blue Schwinn and pedaled away.

The Lieutenant Fuzz family tree is sprawling and diseased. In 1997, four high school friends conjoined to form a rock group. Actually maybe it was five lads? In any case, there was a band and they played a variety of punk, ska, melodic rock, etc. Soon after, they found a new drummer and were temporarily separated from the enigmatic "fifth" member. This new foursome went on their merry way, playing shows in various NJ hot spots. The Stone Pony, The Saint, and The Cove are just a few of the homes of Fuzz performances. During this time of merriment, the first drummer made a brief return. Then he left. Next, the band became an acoustic trio, focusing on slower, more serene music. Then in fall 2000, the band employed a 3rd drummer. A few months later, he fled the state to begin a new life in Michigan

Where does that leave us? In the year 2001, Lieutenant Fuzz became one person. Or maybe it is two people. Or three at the most. Definitely not more than three. The band self-produced and self-released the album "Public Displays of Affection" in 2002. It is a collection of 12 songs focused on a lo-fi aesthetic. The follow-up effort, 2:37 AM, released in the fall of 2003, employs an arsenal of electronic blips and blops alongside soothing acoustics and topped off with socially conscious Christian lyrics. Along with conventional shows and open mic appearances, LtFuzz has employed more unconventional marketing techniques including street performances.
