*Under pressure from opposition forces, Preval allowed the CEP (Conseil Electoral Provisoire, or the Provisional Electoral Council) to organize elections for the end of 1999.

*Elections for President took place on November 26, 2000.  The opposition groups to the FL (known collectively as the Democratic Convergence) boycotted the November elections.  Even though voter turnout was low, Aristide won easily, what with the lack of opponents.

*The Democratic Covergence insisted that the elections of November and May 2000 be annuled.  The FL refused allowing Aristide to be sworn in February 2001.
