UWA Hardcore Wrestling: King of the Deathmatch Tournament Bolton, Ontario, Canada February 24, 2007 Matches Four Corners of Pain Strap Match - Osiris vs. Asylum - There was nothing fancy in this match and that's the way the crowd wanted it. It was hard-hitting and featured some brutal weapons. The key problem with this match was that the pace was a little slow. TLC Match - Ruckus vs. Lionel Knight - This match proves why Ruckus is one of the best indy wrestlers around. Knight also does a great job, that is until the end of the match. Prepare to be disapointed. Stairway to Hell Match - Mickey Knight vs. Bishop - A decent match between two guys who are obviously not deathmatch workers. Again, prepare to be disapointed with the ending. Fans Bring The Weaons Match - Blue Jabroni vs. Nick Watts - Both men outdid themselves with a great FBTWM. From bell to bell both men beat the holy hell out of each other, much to the delight of the fans. UWA Canadian Championship Match - Josh Prohibition (c) vs. Puma - In a break from the violence, J-Pro takes on Puma in a near-trainwreck of a match. J-Pro is a great heel, but when no-one in the crowd likes the challenger Puma, you have a problem. Next. As it is a tournament, I have decided to not go one and mention the next matches. I will say, however, that the Texas Death Match in round 2 is incredibly brutal and is one of the most violent things you will ever see. Announcing Joe. E. Slick tackles the task of announcing by himself with painful results. Perhaps painful is a harsh word, but its pretty bad announcing. His two key downfalls are the fact that he repeats phrases too often, and his mono-tone delivery. Production This DVD has all around great production value, from the camera work to the editing to the menus. Bonus Features This DVD features two music videos from prior UWA events. They are well done, but they are left with you wanting more. Final Rating
Matches: 28/40 Final Rating: 67% This was not your typical death match tournament where two overweight guys beat the hell out of each other. Most of the participants blended their own personal style with a hardcore element. In some cases it worked out well, in a few small cases it crashed and burned. All in all it was a good DVD, though the announcing did take away from the experience slightly. Fans of violence should consider getting this DVD. For those who dislike violence, stay away from this one. |
