Hello and welcome to On Duty, as it
will be my duty weekly to fill you in
on the independent wrestling, and anything
else that I feel like writing about
that's going on in the wrestling world.
So here we go.
Tough Enough: I know it is WWF
affiliated, but I figure down the line
these 13 contestants, including the
winner, will be featured on the indy
scene so why not follow it. So here's
what I thought:
I thought the show was very interesting.
There were a lot of clueless individuals
with a lot of desire, but not a lot
of knowledge at all about what it takes
to become a wrestler. I got a kick out
of Dustin from Maryland who wanted to
become a role model for kids, and have
them on their dying beds in hospitals
have their final wish as meeting him,
not too cocky.
I enjoyed how brutal Tazz was to all
the potentials really making them feel
uncomfortable, and how funny Al Snow
was, constantly ripping on how painful
the tryouts were for him to sit through.
Now if I were to pick from the first
show that I feel would be the winners,
I would go with Greg from Pennsylvania
and Victoria from California. I think
Greg has the image, the size & the determination
to make it, and I think Victoria will
take whatever is going to come to her.
However, I am pushing for Josh just
because I feel he will have the biggest
determination. I don't think he'll win
it, but will be the one everyone will
remember. Breast girl I hope cries and
leaves the show on the first episode.
I got a big kick out of seeing my boys
Doomsday Danny Rose & Supreme Lee Great
(Jon, 20 from Pennsylvania) cutting
promos for the tryouts. I wonder what
Doomsday said when the wrestlers asked
him how he got the cut up forehead?
I was pissed that the Evil Custodian
didn't get a position, join the Indies
man! I felt really sorry for the UK
chick too because she went the extra
mile to get turned down, and then she
started crying, a little uneasy if you
ask me to take in. It was a little easier
seeing Darryl cry though.
But mainly, I wish that all these people
who are craving wrestling stardom that
didn't make it to start on the indy
scene, build up, do it the respectable
way and the more the merrier! I honestly
feel sorry for the 13 contestants because
wrestlers (including Tazz) & fans won't
give them much respect. They have the
opportunity to enter in a business as
difficult to break into the movies or
professional sports. Their aren't many
reality TV shows that guarantee the
winner a multi million dollar budget
film, or a starting position in the
outfield for a major league baseball
team.
I only hope that in the time they train,
those 8 weeks, they can be trained and
ready for the big times. It takes a
wrestler years to craft his style, his
character, his whole gimmick. These
guys are going in clueless, and whipped
into shape in 8 weeks and go head to
head with the best of the best, as green
as the grass is in my backyard. Not
an easy task at all. It could be worse,
they could have had the same hair as
Stephanie McMahon did on opening show.
Did she just wake up? Ws she stressed
out? Either way, it was funny to see.
Pennsylvania Wrestling Federation:
I attended Steve Corino's Pennsylvania
Wrestling Federation on Wednesday in
Pottstown, PA. Steve has really built
up a strong team of wrestlers to join
his federation. I will go on record
to say they have the best organization
in Pennsylvania, and one of the top
20-30 in the U.S. With talent like Red,
Bryan XL, Doomsday Danny Rose, Adam
Flash, Trent Acid & Johnny Kashmere
of the Backseat Boyz, Nova, Jose & Joel
Maximo, Draven, Nicky Benz, Minoru Fujita,
Rapid Fire Maldonado, Jack Victory,
Steve Corino, Dylan Kinght with the
beautiful Candi, and the Sandman, their
a force to be reckoned with.
The opening two matches were good.
The usual manager for Trent Acid in
CZW, Zbarr had a good opening match
against the high flier Bryan XL. Doomsday
& Flash are a very good, cool tag team.
Danny I see becoming a very high profile
talent down the line. The best matches
of the night were the triple main event.
Steve Corino and Minoru Fujita, who
was trained by Yoshihiro Tajiri in the
Big Japan Dojo, had an excellent wrestling
match. One of the best matches I've
seen on an indy card in a long time.
Fujita is fastly becoming a favorite
in my book.
Ultimate props go to Jack Victory,
during the match he threw up after receiving
numerous cane shots to the face, back
& stomach by Rapid Fire Maldonado, and
continuing the match for another 10
minutes. Dylan Knight also had a good
match against the highly intoxicated
Sandman, who did not mind sharing a
few beers with the entire arena, no
matter the age.
I suggest seeing this federation because
its strong storylines, good fan interaction
with the wrestlers, and there's quality
wrestling, as Steve likes to include
wrestling, high flying and harcore brawling.
He is bringing in some great talent,
including Lance Storm and C.W. Anderson
at his next show in Pottstown, PA at
the Academy Hall July 11th.
King of the Ring: King of the
Ring is tonight and is sure to be a
decent PPV card, since PPV's are usually
the only time WWF has more wrestling
than storylines. Here are DocHud's predictions.
Undertaker & DDP- Three
to four years ago this would have been
a match I would have liked to see. Both
are veterans of the sport, both very
large and intimidating men, and both
have never wrestled each other. DDP
would have been a perfect mix in the
Undertaker/McMahon/Stephanie abduction
angle, instead of Vince being the higher
power in the ratings ploy. My pick:
DDP. With all the WCW sightings of WWF
TV, I think this storyline has only
begun.
Light Heavyweight Championship
Jeff Hardy vs. X-Pac- I'm still
going on my word that Xpac never loses.
Whether it's tag team or what, he rarely
loses a bout. I look to see the two
factions of Team Xtreme & Xfactor to
get involved, but Xpac will pull off
the sneak win.
King of the Ring Semifinals:
Kurt Angle vs. Christian. Since
Kurt is facing Shane McMahon as well,
I don't see him beating Christian. Besides,
the Christian/Edge confrontation makes
too much sense.
King of the Ring Semifinals:
Edge vs. Rhyno. Read Above.
Street Fight: Shane McMahon vs.
Kurt Angle. Shane will do a
crazy stunt in the match, Kurt will
complain about something at least once,
some WCW wrestler will interfere on
Shane's behalf, and I think Kurt Angle
will pull off the win in the match.
Though his push has subsided over the
past few months, I think in order to
help Angle's character grow, wins in
gimmick matches such as Street Fight's
will make him more dimensional.
King of the Ring Finals: Christian
vs. Edge. If all goes as planned,
I see Edge winning this bout. When the
card was made up I put my money on Edge,
and feel his push to main event will
start at King of the Ring, because Edge
has all the potential to make it there.
World Wrestling Federation Championship:
Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Chris Jericho
vs. Chris Benoit. I feel that
in this match there are two guarantees.
The first is Stone Cold will no longer
be the champ, the second is tension
will build between the team of Chris
& Chris over who wins. If there is no
unnecessary interference, I can see
this main event as being a very solid
main event worthy of King of the Ring
standards. I'm going with Jericho on
this one. I believe the next night something
will happen to Benoit so he can take
some time off as well.
Honestly, anything can beat the Pat
Patterson/Gerald Brisco hardcore evening
gown match, and the cheap finish to
which the Rock pinned Vince McMahon
to take away HHH's titleat last years
King of the Ring.
Final Predictions:
Undertaker vs. DDP Winner: DDP
Jeff Hardy vs. Xpac Winner: Xpac
Kurt Angle vs. Christian Winner:
Christian
Edge vs.Rhyno Winner: Edge
Shane McMahon vs. Kurt Angle Winner:
Kurt Angle
Christian vs. Edge Winner: Edge
Stone Cold vs. Chris Benoit vs. Chris
Jericho Winner: Chris Jericho.

- An extremely talented, high flying
wrestler who is a high profile on the
East Coast, Ric Blade was severally
injured June 8th in Sewell, NJ at a
Combat Zone Wrestling show. He attempted
to do a 35 foot swanton bomb on Justice
Pain through two tables set up on the
entranceway in the main event. The tables
were too far out in which Blade had
to leap out while doing the stunt. To
make matters short he missed the tables
and badly injured himself. Ric is a
father and is expecting a kid shortly.
