"In the autumn of 1985 I moved to TallMan Avenue in Cranston, Rhode Island. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. My daughter, Caila, was born on August 16, 1986. I began commuting to Boston University two weeks later. I broke up with Allagash and started working with The Units in the autumn of 1986. The Units dissolved at the end of the summer in 1987 and I started working with Mirage. I graduated from Boston University in the spring of 1988. Through all of this my marriage was spiraling downward into the abyss. Reagan was in office for eight years followed by Bush for four years. It was a political nightmare but there wasn't a lot of time to write music. I started experimenting with synthesizers and electronic drums (it was the eighties) in my music and this is the result of my efforts." The songs on this CD were recorded from the autumn of 1985 through the summer of 1988. All of the songs were written, recorded, and produced by John Spreier at TallMan studios using an Akai 270DSS (except Dark Hollow which was recorded at Central Studios using a Tascam 244) and digitally enhanced using Adobe Audition v1.0. All performances are by John except: Jon Jelleyman played bass, John Guadagni played drums, and Caila Spreier sang on Caila's Dub. All of the songs were written by John except the music for Caila's Dub which is Stir It Up written by Bob Marley. The CD, front cover picture, and inside cover picture were shot in Boston at John's graduation from Boston University by Pam Spreier. |
