Newsletter April 19 - 25 2009

Great show this past weekend. We played at the Kitchen Pass in Joplin at a Battle of the Bands.

First we saw a classic-sounding rock band. They were very good and bluesy; all original tunes as well. The guitar player had a very dirty tone. They were tight and played a great set.

Next we watched an electronica/hardcore band. Very good at what they do, however, they were not very well received by this crowd. They seemed to have been better suited for a show at the Foundry.

Our set was very much anticipated, and we rocked the house for a good portion of the votes. We played all originals - Summer's Fading Into Fall, Black Widow, Ruin, and Modern Day. The crowd was eruptive after every song.

Our long-time friends and newly reformed band Cooper's Wishlist followed our set. Originally they had played most of their songs acoustically, but recently over the past few months they have been performing with a bass and drummer behind them. Their sound is much more full and they were very appealing to the audience.

A cover band followed, and fronting them was a very spirited and talented female singer. She led the band through several anthems, including Son of a Preacher Man and a Janis Joplin tune. Even better was the sax player behind them, belting out some fantastic solos.

Finally, Pit 42 took the stage, chugging through their set. They were gracing the stage with a new guitar player. He filled out their drop-tuned sound with massive amounts of crunch, and tore up some great solos.
