(as told by guitarist/vocalist Adam)
Well... Geez... what can I say? We met out of pure dumb luck.
I was goofing around with my new baby. A Fender Squire Standard Stratocaster with a maple neck and white fretboard. The color of it was a sparkle green. I was coming back from my friend's dorm on the 4th floor of her residence hall playing it through a Danelectro Mini Amp walking down the stairs.
Well... I get down to the second floor of the Building, and this scrawny little asian guy comes into the stairwell and says, "Hey, you play guitar? That's pretty cool." He and I got to talking and I went with him back to his room to see his violin. We played a little of "All Along The Watchtower" and I got Harry's number and went back to my dorm, all psyched about meeting this cool violinist... electric, none-the-less.
Time went on, and I wanted to find a band. I had my Les Paul, my Strat, my Silvertone, and my acoustic all in my room. I had my whole new effect chain, as well as my amp, a little 15 watt amp, but I was proud of it.
Occasionally I had chances to practice, but not too often. One weekend, a girl named Missy that I met on AIM came up to UCF wit her acoustic electric guitar, and joined Harry, myself, and a drummer we knew named Gil to jam, but that stopped after a spacey version of "American Woman" and a messed up version of "All Along The Watchtower" drove an RA to kick us all out of Gil's room.
Next came my attempts to assemble a melodic rock band. I wanted to have two guitars and drums. I've had run-ins with bassists in the past that have left me a little "hateful" of their breed. Up to this point, everyone who I had thought of and tried with to form a band wasn't too happy about the style and the fact that they would be a lead player. Everyone wants to be rhythm!
At about this time, I also joined a darker melodic metal band, similar to the styling of Marylin Manson, Ours, and whomever else you can think of. I was the only guitar player in this outfit, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't sound dark and menacing... Maybe it was my hair or something. Harry was drafted as their violin player, and a friend of mine, Frank, was their drummer. I was still toying around with my setup, and I figured that I would be fine with my drummer, Gil, in case it didn't work. But the singer had personal problems that conflicted with him working with us, so the keyboardist whipped us into the band, and the singer was usually "around" and did the least amount of work. When Frank was set behind some skins and had problems, that was the same day that I was gone. They had brought in a new bassist that had the sound like they wanted. So I was booted, as well as Frank. And they took my drummer, Gil, for their own use, so I drafted Frank.
My girlfriend at the time, Allison, and I were always going to the UCF fountain and sitting down and just talking about whatever. One night after I left the other band, we were down by the fountain and she saw Genevieve - a friend of hers who lives on her floor, talking with Lorn. We went over and sat down by them and talked some. Gradually Lorn and I broke away from the women, and we talked some about music. Mostly about America and CSN&Y, both of whom were also among my favorite oldies artists. I got Lorn's number and told him that I'd call him some time to jam.
The time kinda passed a little, and one night after trying to audition a guitarist for my melodic rock project (of which I already had Lorn and Frank committed to), Harry and I were going to jam. We invited Lorn down and instantly we started just goofing around with what would become the intro to "Entrophy". We finished up the song and said, "Ah what the hell... Let's go for it!" So we named ourselves Insomniac Strings and took off.
We just wrote songs and practiced our covers, and prepared separately over winter break to come back to UCF and change all music as we know it. We renamed ourselves to Mindflux because of the the way that we flux minds through the melding of the instruments.
We feel that we ARE the sonic seers...
Hope that you'll agree...
Thanks for caring, and we'll catch you later!
Peace, Love, and Music,
