Music. There's many things to say about it. In fact there will be more thoughts on it as seperate peices. This though will focus on it as an entirety.
Music is known as the ultimate communicational symbol. Some people may pronounce this off and tell me that math is. This could be true. But more than likely music would be the most efficient due to it pleasing both two senses. The hearing, by it's tones and beat, and touch by it's waves (ex:when near a speaker your body seems almost to pulsate. Even in movies it is shown as a link of communication. As in "Close Encounters of the Third Kind". A tune of pitches is played only to be played back by a diffrent lifeform. Though now you are probably wondering what the point is of all of this.
The point is when there is such a large communication form it must be split up into divisions (Alternative, Pop, Punk, Country, Rock, Rap, etc.). Just like languages (English, Japanese, Hungarian, French, Spanish, German, etc.). They both are alike in which they can seperate people. Yes, there are those exceptions, people can be "multilingual/enjoy many types of music" in fact I am like this, but the breed is few and far between. Each division seems to break off creating more and more divisions with in itself. The truth is nobody's the same. Someone could like two bands while another could like another two. The "seperation" part of it though is both of the people could have been "Punk" fans, but would have both claimed that the other didn't like the "so and so" band and that the band they liked were not "Punk" at all.
Yet, why does this happen. It's because it's human will to be right. Each person wants everyone to agree, act, and like the same things they like. Once the human spirit can realize and control this, they themselves will understand everyone's opinions. Yet, people know this and still go against one another.
Which must be the worst is the fight over mainstream and underground. The reason I am against this is because some bands actually want to sell CD's. Sure, I myself buy CD's of bands probably no one's heard of and more than likely never will, but I do this because I am intrested in hearing new and diffrent music. Not music from a Top 40 radiostaion because it's the exact same songs always being repeated.I personally don't listen to it because it's "mainstream" but because of the reason I previously listed. How can people call it a bad CD if it is played 2,000 times a day. With exceptions like boy bands which rely more on looks than talent(another thought completly). This is what makes you wonder whats the hype over underground. Especially when there's an "indipendent/underground" area at your local record store. I mean last time I checked underground meant it was unkown, but I guess I'm not the one to judge. Now it seems almost to appear that the line between underground and mainstream is slowly dissolving.
Of course music will always seperate people in to groups, but hopefully someday people will realize that it's all one singular object. It all has the basic core of pitches, tones, and beats. It is all just one language.
