the moldy peaches story starts in the year of 1994, when adam green is 13 and kimya dawson 21 years old, in a coffeehouse in new york. adam was a very creative child, making his own songs and performing them everytime he reached a microphone. people thought he was cute, but kimya thought he was something more. at this times she worked in a recordstore where adam used to hang aroud every day listening to her stories about making out with indieboys in other citites. adam were very impressed by her stories and thought of her as a feminine jack kerouac that had lots of knowledge and had done it all.
one afternoon when kimya watched tv in her friends house, adam came there and started doing some music with kimyas friend. after a while they asked kimya if she would like to do the singing and so she did. she sang the first words that popped up in her head and that was

little bunny foo foo hopping through the forest
scooping up the fieldmice and bopping them on the head

they thought it sounded fabulous and so they had made the first song by, what later on beacame, the moldy peaches. adam and kimya started to spend a lot of time toghether and recroded new songs as often as possible. they didn’t at all mind the age-gap of eight years between them. after some time they had eleven songs so they put out a cd called fer the kids.
during 1995-1999 the moldy peaches lost it’s structure a bit with musicians changes places all the time and kimya moving to washington (and after a while adam came after) and then back to new york. the anti-folk festival in august 2000 was an important gig for the moldy peaches, because in the crowd of people a man from a recordlabel were standing, and he decided to sign them up. they had the freedom to pick out their own favourite songs and make an album out of it. the first real moldy peaches album.
im may 2001 the single who’s got he crack reached independent radiostations all over the us and in the underground gangs it bacame a monster-hit. during the summer they followed the strokes on a european tour and everybody talked about their spectacular dresses. you couldn’t see the moldy peaches performing, you saw a rabbit, peter pan, robin hood or maybe a rhino.
in automn 2001 they finally released their full lenght album, that’s just called the moldy peaches, and a great tour followed in spring 2002 (with david kitt and joie / dead blonde girlfriend) and in may they got the new single county fair / rainbows out in stores. during 2002 both kimya and adam released solo-albums (kimya did even release two!) and nowdays they’re mostly doing sologigs. but the moldy peaches are still alive, offcourse, and i’m sure of that we will see more of them soon!
