Dear comrades,
Australia Asia Worker Links (AAWL) would like to invite your organisation to a meeting to discuss refugee rights issues in the context of regional co-operation.
AAWL has been building solidarity links between workers in Australia and the rest of Asia for over 20 years. The issue of migrant worker rights and of refugees is one that has existed in Asia for a number of years.
There are many organizations in a number of countries that undertake work to protect and extend the rights of migrants and refugees. Due to AAWL’s long involvement in the Asia Pacific region, we have been invited to be the Australian contact for an Asian wide network on refugee rights.
We recognise the excellent work that many organizations are already doing here in Melbourne and we would like to begin a process of consultations and coordination between various relevant groups so that we do not end up duplicating work that other organizations may be doing. Therefore we would like to invite a representative of your organization to attend this meeting to share ideas and experiences, and to begin the task of an internationally co-ordinated approach.
If you are unable to attend this meeting and would like to remain in contact please ring the office of AAWL or Ellen Kleimaker at Trades Hall, ph. 9659 3575.
The meeting will be held
Wednesday, 21 March 2001, 12.30 – 2.00pm
Victorian Trades Hall Council, Meeting Room 2
54 Victoria Street (use Lygon Street entrance)
CARLTON SOUTH, VIC. 3013
We look forward to seeing you on the 21st.
Yours in Solidarity
Ellen Kleimaker
Piergiorgio Moro
PS. Feel free to pass this invitation on to any other organization that you feel should also be included in this meeting
