Diversity Band: Satanic Surfers CD: Unconsciously Confined Yeah, admit it - You see a name like "Satanic Surfers" when flipping through albums at the record store, and you really wonder what they are like. I'm happy to say that this band is more than just a fun name. Unconsciously Confined is both inspired and inspiring. If you're fed up with the pop-punk of today, you may appreciate the sounds and perspectives of these Swedish punks' album. This is a collection of songs covering a decent amount of the pop-punk spectrum. But rather than fitting in to the genre mold that you would expect, they drive ahead with a mix of approaches that are all undeniably Satanic Surfers'. Some are slower with everyday life themes ("pecan pie" and "the sing-along summer song"), while others, such as "state of conformity" and "more to life" aggressively urge us to wake up to responsibility. The guitars sound very full, but not really heavy. The album flows all the way through, and it seems to pass by quickly. That won't stop you from giving it another spin. This is vocalist Rodrigo's first album out from behind the drumset. It is probably to the band's benefit to allow him to focus only on vocals, as he can develop the part with his poppy, but Graffin-esque style. The often aggressive guitars and steady snare create the perfect environment for his voice. All of the songs are good, and some shine brighter than others. To sum it up, the Satanic Surfers are sing-along with substance.
